Vehicle icons
As we know, many public servers enforcing "squad asset rule".
But in sometimes rule fails because many(or not) players still don't know which class of asset they using.
Squads with bmp naming apc, mtlb with 30mm in apc\ifv\etc...
So maybe devs can help admins and players by replacing old icons with some useful information?
What we have now
What could it be

Re: Vehicle icons
It won't have much use for the players that have played this mod for a while, but it will certainly help for the newcomers.

Re: Vehicle icons
I love it, I am kinda tired of everyone fighting over what tank or apc it is. like t-72-t-80, etc. great idea and should be easy to implement

Re: Vehicle icons
What your suggesting, with having the text to the right of the icon, isn't possible in the current hud format (may be with a load of editing) and even if it was, would have a lot of wasted texture space.
While I like the idea of having the vehicles name on the vehicle icon, it would have to be directly on top of it. The problem with this of course is that the player position icons would then cover the text..

Re: Vehicle icons
lol at the standing mec soldiers.
Could you possibly put the text on the bottom-middle?
It would look weird, but I think it would help. Also, if the vehicles name would be displayed next to the players name like "[PR] Wally (BMP-3)"

Re: Vehicle icons
FH2 has something like this, doesn't look too bad. But implementing the text on the icons as we have them probably won't look that good.
Someone could try it out of course.

If someone with a little bit of PS knowledge wants to do it, feel free to go ahead.
Make a few examples and send them to me. Then we can take a look and if it's great deciding weather it's worth putting more effort in it.
I really like the idea but we have no Dev resources to do this for all vehicles at the moment.

Re: Vehicle icons
I don't think you need to actually have the name in the images.
You can use:
Which get the text from:
Where as in pr the names seems to be replaced by "killed". Just add the correct name of the vehicle as the hudname.
Or am I missing something that would cause this to not work?
You can use:
Code: Select all
hudBuilder.setTextNodeStringVariable VehicleNameStringCode: Select all
ObjectTemplate.vehicleHud.hudName "killed"Or am I missing something that would cause this to not work?

Re: Vehicle icons
Or just add a little IFV, APC, MBT, JEP etc somewhere on the vehicle icon.

There are over 100 variants of land vehicles (not all of them used) in PR. You should probably get started sooner than later[R-DEV]BloodyDeed wrote:If someone with a little bit of PS knowledge wants to do it, feel free to go ahead.

Re: Vehicle icons
Why? Cause you don't want it to show on the HUD? As it destroys the immersion of the HUD or anything?
Care to elaborate?

Re: Vehicle icons
Yeah, why not just add it to the vehicle icon, somewhere where seat squares dont obstruct the text... Thoughnif yu look at it, soldiers must know and recognize vehicles and well... PR is a bit on the realistic side.
Alternatively, a good wiki page should be done on vehicles, like some german dudes that are already doing it.
