Re: Poll: Battlefield game(s) before PR
This poll kinda bounces my own theory that a lot of players are just random players who never played BF2 before but have heard about PR mod. So perhaps a lot of players who had played or tried BF2 before make it easier to update BF2 and install the mod.
I have some friends who dont own BF2 so they are less motivated to buy the game to install PR. Even if I offer their sorry arses a bought copy I have unopened.
If BF2 ever gets dropped into the free basket at EA games I suspect we'll see even more players after 1.0 is released. I dread it in one sense because so many players now have no use for teamplay on servers that don't appreciate it either. What a fine game we once had once upon a time ago.

Uhh, Battlefield 1942 and that's it.
I couldn't possibly play either BF 2 or 3. Not my kind of game.

Started playing BF in 2007, and discovered PR 0.5 shortly after that. Mostly played singleplayer due to bad internet connection. Started playing online in 0.7, and have played ever since.

Re: Poll: Battlefield game(s) before PR
are we going to ignore all the other BF games? I've played every one up to 2142 didnt discover PR until 3 maybe 4 years ago.
Loved 1942 and Vietnam, the 1942 MP Demo alone held my admiration for years. Also discovered and fell in love with Forgotten Hope mod.
BF2 held my interest for about a month, got bored of it real quick.
2142 was better i played that for about 3-4 months before getting bored of it.
played BF3 once.

Bought bf2 based on the developer demo which promised a tactical online shooter. Woke up to a clowny arcade game where players parachute out of blackhawks to shoot snipers with the SRAW while parachuting.

Re: Poll: Battlefield game(s) before PR
This poll is kinda lame. No offense, but you didn't even include the most iconic of Battlefield games; Battlefield 1942. It was epic. It had capture the flag game mode, like, go get the flag from the enemy base, and bring it back to yours!
But nevermind that, I never even played the 1942 part of it. There's this mod called "Desert Combat", it was THE SAUCE! Recreation of the first gulf war. 1942 DC CTF was so pwn... it was a RIOT!
Battlefield 2 was actually partly developed by the same development team that created DC. In fact, Trauma Studios, the creators of DC mod for 1942, were hired by EA to help develop BF2. You can thank EA and Dice's impatience with Trauma Studios Devs for BF2 not having "Fast Ropes". As well as several other things that were promised but never delivered to the core BF2 engine. EA and Dice had a falling out with Trauma Studios devs because they were willing to sacrifice the awesomeness of the game in exchange for such things as the three failed mods, "Special Forces", "European Union", and "Armored Fury".
But probably the single-most significant reason why Trauma Studios and Dice had a falling out:
Dice wanted the game to be ranked, and CTF game mode would ruin the ranking. CTF game mode is what MADE 1942 and DC so epic. Dice wanted to scrap CTF alltogether. Trauma cut out. CTF never made it, several other things that Trauma were still working on, fastropes included, never got implemented.
You can thank greedy, micromanaging haters for the failure that is Battlefield 2.
I can't believe your poll doesn't even bother to mention the most epic of all the BF games.
EDIT:
But for what it's worth, what does it really even matter anymore? Now that I've tasted the sweet tempting flavor of PR, there is naught to be desired MORE of a gaming experience. Everything else released lately is just lame as far as I'm concerned. Arcadie BF3 included.

Re: Poll: Battlefield game(s) before PR
Thread was not intended to focus on old "epic" games. The purpose, if you read the first post, was to get an idea of who has already played BF2, from which this mod is based upon, prior to playing it.{ZW}C-LOKE wrote:This poll is kinda lame. I added BF3 only because I was curious about whether or not BF3 players were moving over or trying out PR.
This thread isn't meant to be a lololo bragging rights about what BF games you have played. It's a POLL

Clanmates were playing BF2. So i checked out some movies on youtube and i think i watched PR video's assuming it was vanilla BF2.
I got BF2 and was dissappointed because it was not wat i saw on the youtube video's. Played a bit of BF2, quit, started playing again a year later or so and got known with PR.

Re: Poll: Battlefield game(s) before PR
Started playing PR during version .3 or .4, looking forward to 1.0, and am so very happy I found out about PR when I did, it immediately changed the entire gaming experience for me. BF2 was a new game unto itself and PR raised the bar immediately.

Re: Poll: Battlefield game(s) before PR
I have played Battlefield 2 for a long time, I had multiple accounts with their creation dated to between 2006 and 2011, my most played online account only had 18 total hours of online play time, and was last played 2009. I created a new one 2 years ago and haven't particularly touched it since, with it having a good hour of play time and a KDR of 6:1.
So, it wasn't really 7 straight hours of playing, and I barely touched the online portion of BF2, because I loved mods and pretty much only the single-player portions. I played Battlefield 3 for about a good few hours before I got sick of it because a few months ago, I had a lot of framerate problems when I tried to play it in 2012, and I really, really hate Origin and how they do their 'launch from a browser' ****.
I have a single 570 GTX now so it may work fine but BF3 is just a mess for me. I cba to bother trying to get play it when I've gotten back into BF2 and it's mods.

Re: Poll: Battlefield game(s) before PR
I played BF:1942 for a few years, probably 2005 onwards until 2009, when I discovered the world of modding, and ultimately Project Reality. I decided to buy BF2 from there just for PR.
Also to be noted, I never really liked BF2, was way too spammy for my likes, I played for about 2 weeks and went straight into PR, playing on ultra-low specs, smallest resolution and enjoying it more than I had enjoyed a game since BF1942.
Got a new computer last year and havent really got back into PR, dont know why, I really, really enjoy it but just cant get the spark back. I think I just need to play for a bit and get used to it again.

I know that feeling. I think, in the core, it's just a bit of "can't be arsed to give it a shot right now". Been the same for me. Not many of the old folks still playing... But I guess we'll just have to give ourselves a kick in the behindGot a new computer last year and havent really got back into PR, dont know why, I really, really enjoy it but just cant get the spark back. I think I just need to play for a bit and get used to it again.
