Iron Ridge (Insurgency Gamemode)

Post by BadMad »

Since 2010 there was no topic about Iron Ridge, but personally I have something to say about it.
So, the point is: since 0.9 was released, insurgency game mode took some serious gameplay changes. And they are not OPFOR prioritized I must say..
The main thing about INS gameplay flaws - are cache spawn points and locations.
Iron Ridge as itself is very good and interesting map.AAS(Conquest) gamemode feels pretty nice and natural with that relief and environment.
But..INS layer is definitely opposite to the AAS layer..
I'll post s a screen to make everyone understand the situation:
Image
So on the screen:
- red circles - most frequent spawn areas
- orange circles - medium frequency spawn areas
- yellow one - very rare spawn area (seems like it was already removed - not sure)
Do you see?-Just 11 areas to check (minus 4 rare areas - 7 left!).And that's with 7 caches to be destroyed..
Nowadays the situation is very disappointing - about 90% of our players are well aware of all spawn points, so they just check them all one by one, and they find the unknowns in 5-10 minutes per cache. The only chance to conceal the unknown is when it spawns in 4 areas in both cities(cause it's much more difficult to find them there if no one reveals it by spawning on 'em), that happens quite rare, I must say.
So based on this info and my personal experience, I want to ask the mapper of Iron Ridge to re-work weapon cache spawn system on this map, and make possibility to randomly spawn caches in whole blue area on the screen (in the woods).
It works perfectly well on Korengal and especially Lashkar, where both sides (BLUFOR and OPFOR) are really Equal!-OPFOR has various caches spawnpoints, and the BLUFOR has enough power and time to find and destroy 'em all.

Just now, in 0981(as well since it was released), Iron Ridge lasts not more, then an hour, or even less, because of that weapon cache spawn system and very limited amount of locations where they could spawn.

Hope for your understanding..

I know what you mean, and that is also the reason why I don't play Iron Ridge. Games are over way too quickly and it is just not fun.

So you don't mind having caches in the middle of the forest, with no protection?

As long as it's in a ditch so it can't be shot by a BTR from half way across the map, I for one wouldn't mind. Better then having a single building in the middle of nowhere with it inside it. Would be nice to have it in a bush ofc, so BLUEFOR might have to search a little bit for it at least. Seen worse after all...
I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.

Absolutely agree.
That's actually what I was talking about.
There is no "protection" in just 11(!!!) well-known locations which are known by any noob in PR.If the cache will spawn in the bush, or at least somewhere down the hill/in the ditch - that would be better, then in 11 small locations in total, 7 of 'em could be checked within 5-10 minutes max.

I just added 74 more caches and moved some of the existing.
You'll see these changes in v1.0. :)

Thanks again for your suggestion.

Thanks a lot, mate!
Hope it 'll work exactly as meant to..To provide more interesting (and much longer :) ) INS gameplay on this nice map.
Cheers!

It depresses me that clans and some individuals actually study the game mode as much as this, in order to be more 'tactical' when they play each map.

I've observed behaviour on most insurgency maps that exploits this sort of analysis, where squads do just go from one location to another on a map without pause searching for unguarded caches.

Nice to hear you've fixed this up a bit Soccer, is it something that could be (or has been) done to similar maps?

if you play the map enough you will know where the most common spawn places will be.

It's kind of a pain to move 100 caches around, but yes, we have done a little of that on other maps. We've also fixed all of the reported glitched caches.

Also remember that some changes to insurgency for v1.0 will help with these problems too. :)

if a cache is in the forest, yes it is easier to destroy than building, but factors such as distance from BLUFOR main, and distance from the edge of the map are important.

I mean if you had a cache in D1K7, even if it was in the open, it would still be incredibly challenging to destroy. I dont mind caches in ditches in the forest, as long as theyre balanced by using other terrain advantages.
