Download Error 1201

Post by Tangodown »

I've originally started this thread under another title of PR forum, may be thats the cause I dint get any answer yet. Sorry if it wasn't the right place, I am restarting the thread here, hoping I will attract more attention. The original starting post looks like:

After succesfully downloading, installing and playing Project Reality BF2 v1.0.29.0 and succesfully updating it to v1.0.30.0 , I can't update to v1.0.31 . Getting the following error message:

Been trying it for a coupla' days, no luck yet.
To fix the problem, I "sniffed out" the url for the zip file that contains the entire update and after a more detailed analysis of the content of the zip, I've found that it contains changes for PR executables and dlls and these changes are stored in particular "difference files" using the extension ".prdiff" . So a simple extraction of the update zip is not enough to apply the update completely. How could I apply the patch starting from the locally stored zip ?

Losing my interest of this whole thing anyway ... it's not me who should take care of fixing the bugs of such updater ... Such "embedded" downloader-updaters are mostly problematic I dont really understand why they are used around the net so widely. Each 2nd of these is nothing else but a source of bugs what can potentially prevent updating a game or software.

A simple downloadable offline/standalone update would be just "toooo primitive" ... right ?

... although it would probably work for everyone ...

Make sure there's no issues with firewalls or proxies or whatever that would stop it from connecting to the download source.

As for installing the update manually, just double click it? The PR:BF2 installer sets up the .prpatch file extention to associate with PRUpdater and should allow you to install it manually that way. If not, do PRUpdater.exe +applyPatches "path/to/update.prpatch"

Your da man, thanx for replying ))

The cause the update didn't originally work was:

the file which was downloadable (for me at least) from http://files.bloodydeed.ch/updates/prbf ... ch.prpatch had actually a "zip" extension. However, once I've changed its extension to ".prpatch", the updater has processed it successfully! Thanx again

P.s.: I suggest you to check the extension of the uploaded update file. Not sure it's only me who can only dl it as a zip ...

Must've been an issue with your downloading software, because as the URL clearly shows, it's ".prpatch" on the server.

Anyway, you will want to fix the issue with the updater not downloading files, because downloading them manually like so isn't the right way it's meant to be :p . Can you post your support info (launcher -> support -> support info tab -> copy to clipboard and paste here)?

Well I'm convinced the cause is my webbrowser and the API it provides your updater what's not included in that report of PR launcher, while there are other features of my comp in PR launcher rep I wouldn't like to submit. In the meantime I've dl-ed the patch with a download manager though and it has completed dl with the right filename, while my browser still dl-s it as a zip. Additionally I am still confused though about how could I update to v1.0.30.0 on the normal way ... O_o As for any future updates I prefer standalone/offline ones that are downloadable from unhidden urls.

Sorry I'm not an upholder of submitting any software / hardware features of my comp. I offer "my case" and the solution results from it for such cases instead, that would be the following:

If someone has download error 1201 issue, go to Index of /updates and download the updates manually. If the dl-ed update files have .zip extension (or any extension other than .prpatch ), rename them so they have .prpatch extension. Then double-click on them in the right install order to make them processed by the updater.

Hi. I'm currently experiencing the same thing. I don't really understand the process on how to fix it. Can anyone help? Like a step by step thing?

  1. Check your current PR version
  2. Go here: http://files.bloodydeed.ch/updates/
  3. Download the patch that matches your current version to the next version
  4. Install that manually
  5. Try the auto-updater again. If it still doesn't work... repeat the above steps for all patches until you get up to date ;)

The update server crashed yesterday and caused this issue. It should work again.
