Re: Pacific Theatre
A good first map for a possible Pacific Front for PR would be Saipan. Iwo Jima had tanks, a limited number of Chi-Ha and Ha-Gos under command of Takeichi Nishi but most of them (if not all) were just static emplacements as they lacked spares. On the US side yes, we all know they employed M4 Shermans. The problem with Iwo is that most of Japanese assets would be completely static, as they didn't moved their forces/equipment too much between positions.
However in Saipan, the Japanese launched tank attacks on the US forces during the battle. Saipan would be better in terms of gameplay, Iwo would be awesome tho!.

Weren't flamethrowers extensively used in the Pacific theater? And if I'm not mistaken, isn't it nearly impossible for BF2 to have flamethrowers?

It's possible to have flamethrowers. Just take a look at FH2's flamethrower, or the M67 "Zippo" in PR:Vietnam.

To solve the doubts:
While we want to make the Pacific front, it's a lot more than maps with jungle vegetation, it should have the Japanese team, the USMC team, with proper vehicles, kit set-up, voices, kit geometries. But you people are always welcome to help and do some work.

Ahh okay cool. I couldn't remember if the engine allowed for that because of all those problems with the Molotov and how fire went through walls. I guess the mechanic is different because its not thrown right?[R-DEV]AfterDune wrote:It's possible to have flamethrowers. Just take a look at FH2's flamethrower, or the M67 "Zippo" in PR:Vietnam.

Why not start off with a battle for the Coral sea map work then the retaking of Guadalcanal, Solomon islands, Marshall islands (Tarawa, Kwajalein etc) and so on.. ?

Guadalcanal would probably be the easiest? Just an island ala Operation Barracuda.
I imagine the factions would be the main part, pity we dont already have a Japanese faction with the voices ready to go in PR :/

Yeah, we would need Japanese voices. Without voices, it's just not going to happen. From the top of my head, I'm pretty sure we can get most Japanese weaponry. Vehicles would be a bit tougher
I know CQB has voices, but I've been in touch with them 'back then' and weren't interested in sharing.

Wasn't there a Japanese community faction once upon a time?

Is CQB still alive? It was a pretty cool mod.[R-DEV]AfterDune wrote: I know CQB has voices, but I've been in touch with them 'back then' and weren't interested in sharing.
Could the Japanese just use some placeholder voices? I know it sounds pretty bad, but as far as I remember Argentina used US voices when PRF was first released.

Even FH2 is barely alive, gets one full server at peak hours, all the other mods are dead, I saw maybe 2 players playing a POE2 server years ago...torenico wrote:Is CQB still alive? It was a pretty cool mod.

Yeah, I have not been able to get in FH forums for a while, they seem to be down for me. And CQB has ceased development... since 2009 it appears ha. Overlooked mod, it had some fantastic weapons, sounds, statics and maps. Their Moddb page reads "*AT THIS TIME NO ASSETS MADE BY CQB TEAM ARE TO BE USED IN OTHER MODS THANK YOU*", I hope they can give PR their voice files for a possible Pacific Theatre minimod.

There was a short pause in FH2 development, but they are back on the case now. But back to the topic at hand.

The only other thing that I know comes close, are the Japanese voices from BF1942. Don't think using those would be an issue, seeing as FH2 uses BF1942 voices as well. But BF1942 doesn't have enough voices, much less than what BF2 offers. So you still need additional Japanese voices.torenico wrote:Is CQB still alive? It was a pretty cool mod.

And using non-Japanese placeholder voices doesn't sound good to me.

Re: Pacific Theatre
You could use Chinese voice place holders lol. I mean, obviously they are two different languages, but it would be better than having English voices for the Japanese IMHO[R-DEV]AfterDune wrote:The only other thing that I know comes close, are the Japanese voices from BF1942. Having English voices is exactly the same as having Mandarin. To us western folks they sound somewhat similar (more like German vs English for example), but they really aren't.

If anyone is serious about taking this task on then they should ask the XWW2 developers for their assets; they have all the (low detail) guns, aeroplanes and player models, perhaps even the voices but I'm not certain on that one. Maybe they'll share

They are no longer sharing assets. We have contacted them months ago.titsmcgee852 wrote:If anyone is serious about taking this task on then they should ask the XWW2 developers for their assets; they have all the (low detail) guns, aeroplanes and player models, perhaps even the voices but I'm not certain on that one.
