Re: Khamisiyah, the new "Kashan?"
Khamisiyah is a beautiful map and it's clearly very well designed.
However, like Kashan I loathe and despise it. For about 10 people on each side (CAS and Armour - and usually the same people every time) it's a wet dream, but for the other 40 people it's a very dull and boring hour-and-a-half long affair of doing nothing productive whatsoever.
I'm not a CAS/Armour whore, and so I find both maps incredibly boring.

Exactly, if it switched places with bunkers it would be brilliant. The only times you ever get to play in the village is either when your team is getting smashed or your team is smashing the enemies which usually isn't fun for anyone. Also the wadi's that run either side of the village look like fun to play in. Too bad the flag layout doesn't really require you to go through those areas.saXoni wrote:Indeed; it's a shame that village isn't placed more toward the center of the map.

idk if the inf fights where armor cant touch it then there is little point in having armor support. Just risk cas to knock off tickets killing enemy armor.saXoni wrote:Indeed; it's a shame that village isn't placed more toward the center of the map.

Re: Khamisiyah, the new "Kashan?"
Nothing will ever be the 'new Kashan' - it has developed such meta game around the bunkers and hills.
The simplicity of it is what makes it, clear central objective with hard cover yet dependable on the control of surrounding hills in order to advance and good symmetrical secondary objectives. Purest combined arms map in PR. If you're having a 'boring round' as infantry, you're obviously doing something wrong. Armor and CAS especially are completely useless without infantry.
Kashan is a punishing map though, if your team is unorganized and the enemy has their fecal matter together you'll probably get your *** handed to you on a plate no matter what, infantry or armor. That's probably why so many say that Kashan isn't a good infantry map etc. with which I disagree. If all else fails, you can at least have an epic last stand defending the bunkers, surrounded and with no supply line!
However, with even the most basic level of teamwork and communication, combined arms action is one of the most rewarding aspects of PR and even if you lose you'll have a good time.
I've had good rounds on Khamisiyah, it's a good map but you really can't put it in the same category as Kashan. It's more cluttered and has more nooks and crannies to hide in, and it's not symmetrical. It plays completely different.
Lastly, Kashan is fortunately one of the maps that everyone can run with little performance issues
So, Kashan Desert forever!

Kashan is indeed one of the best PR map imho. It is well designed, well balanced, and good for CAS, armour and infantry (bunker fights at least).
Kamsiyah is great but it's another style, reminds me a lot of Al Kufrah Oilfields!

This basically. The only thing I'd really love to see for Kashan, were a revamped version with the ground LODs updated and maybe a bit of cosmetics.splatters wrote:The simplicity of it is what makes it, clear central objective with hard cover yet dependable on the control of surrounding hills in order to advance and good symmetrical secondary objectives. Khamisiyah is a beautiful map but I wouldn't trade one for another. Both have their very own beauty and attraction.
What? Might be my memory but the only thing I remember from Al Kufrah were oilpipes, oilsilos, sand and BMP-3 shells coming at menAyo wrote:Kamsiyah is great but it's another style, reminds me a lot of Al Kufrah Oilfields!

Re: Khamisiyah, the new "Kashan?"
I hate Kashan, it's another of those 'rush the flag' empty maps where if you play Inf you sit around for 40mins whilst everyone else has fun, and then get wiped out by events outside your control, to respawn, organise again, and get shot down on the loooong heli ride to a non-strategic target in the middle of a flat desert.
If you could dig in it wouldn't be so bad, I suppose, but i'd still do what I do at the moment when it comes on - Quit the server and look for another map.
Burning Sands is a lot better as it has something for the Infantry to do - Get the enemy infantry out of the central town bit.
Aside from that it's much of the same.
Jabal differs.. I like that map for combined arms. The Infantry is actually doing something aside from capping a flag for the people having fun.

Re: Khamisiyah, the new "Kashan?"
When playing 1.0 one day after release@TG, AFSoccer mentioned on how Khamisiyah was supposed to replace Kashan and that they did not take it out just yet. A bit odd if they will replace Kashan, considering they updated it with Canadian Forces, why put in effort for a map that is going to be replacedmatty1053 wrote:Hello PR Players.
I am asking for your guys' opinions...
Do you think that Khamisiyah will be the "New Kashan"?
NO, I am not comparing either of them, I know that Khamisiyah is just better and different. But do you guys think it's going to be constantly overplayed and about 6 months later it will be Boring?
My opinion... Not really, I think that it's a very good map for anyone. Great training map too for every asset!
I think that the Devs could make a Insurgent Layer?

I heard it, I was in his squad on the second day of 1.0, after a long discussion on removed maps while waiting for something to happen at Bunker 73 (something like that) he said it was going to replace Kashan and that they did not take Kashan out of 1.0 just yet, likely until Khamisiyah matures.nAyo wrote:Nothing is as scary as a BMP if you ask me.

Now, if the forum holds a massive protest everything will be happy and they will re-add Sunset City as a bonus

No way, Kashan is last week's news. It had it's day between the 0.6-0.7 generations of Project Reality. It's been stale for years, especially if you're a 5+ year vet.
Of course ANY PR map can have a fun round but Khamisiyah is head and shoulders superior than it's Kashan predecessor.
Kashan was popular for so long since there were relatively few PR maps years ago that featured 16km with a full asset load. The problem is Kashan has some serious design flaws.
- Emperor's new clothes, it's butt-fuck ugly. It is easily the most visually unappealing map in the entire collection. Largely devoid of features and scrub vegetation that other desert maps share making them feel like places on planet earth. Back in the day when it had the old sky texture, we used to joke it was the Mars battle.
- Large sections of the play space go under/rarely used. The North center and NE of the map is largely untouched. The ENTIRE southeast quadrant only comes into play in a cap-out situation. Already in a few short weeks on Khamisiyah I've fought all over that map. The flags and paths to them are more dynamic and less linear.
- As Cassius pointed out earlier the super invincible bunker area separates the infantry into it's own private sub battle. Limitations of the BF2 engine obviously means perimeter walls aren't destroyable. Infantry squads are pretty much without saying "bunker" squads since their ability to operate on the open terrain is limited. Calling it "combined" arms is a partial misnomer.
- The symmetrical mirror image balance map style is totally passe. The DEVs stated years ago they were moving away from featuring maps of that nature in current releases. It's ridiculously unrealistic for two conventional forces to engage in a perfect 1:1 force strength battle. EJOD Desert, Sunset City, Qinling are all long gone. Qwai river has been so heavily modified it doesn't play like that.
- 700 Tickets per, it's also too damned long on a half full server. I remember a thread of players complaining servers would get stalled on Kashan and just drag *** on for hours with a revolving door of people joining/leaving. Khamisiyah has a bit leaner 600 tickets.
Ol' Kashan is a total dinosaur.
There is a new combined arms king now!

Re: Khamisiyah, the new "Kashan?"
You guys crack me up. For years we heard complaints about Kashan -- how horrible it was but also how it was overplayed because it was one of the few large desert combined arms maps. SO... we sought out to make a better one. We took the same concepts:
So long story short, we will be removing Kashan at some point in the future. There is no need to have two maps with so much similarity (and thus two maps that we have to update). Lastly, Kashan is horribly showing its age. It served its purpose but PR does not keep maps forever (think back at all the maps that have come and gone) because it bloats the files and requires too much effort from the DEV team to maintain, update, de-bug, etc. Instead, we can focus our limited time on new maps and keeping them bug free. We understand that no one map will make everyone happy and everyone has their favorites but Kashan will be removed at a future date (TBD). That shouldn't surprise anyone.

I aint surprised, but im gonna be sad as hell when it happens! That shouldn't surprise anyone.
But im sure you guys gonna find some nice compensations for this glorious map, at least i hope so since i think the mod lacks maps in the desert / middle east setting (I aint no fan of trees, sorry).
