Re: The Normandy Campaign
wow no joke i played that game two days ago, felt like some 3rd person ww2 shooting. Sweet game, just wish the next one (furious four) was never made and they continued on with the story.'[R-DEV wrote:AfterDune;1945639']The Dutch terrain back then looks a bit like this:
Looking at it again it does look alot like Normandy depicted in PRN. It does have more fields but it does look quite similar. Although i've never been to either place so i don't know what i'm on about.

Actually no, it wouldn't.RAF1996 wrote:i still think desert would be easier to do
Guys be aware that suggesting more content isn't necessarily constructive as that is a given. It is underestimating the effort it takes to mod and hence why sometimes PR Devs drop the cliche line.
Without backing up the desire to do something, it will always fall on deaf ears. A team won't detract of their current goals because someone wants this or that. The goals have been set for a purpose and will only expand according to the resources at hand.
Sorry if I am being harsh and please understand that I'm not trying to have a go at you. I was one of the guys following PN closely and suggesting things regularly until I decided to learn a skill. I proposed my idea to AD and right now I am in the team trying to materialize that wish. With university, family, friends and potential jobs/internships crawling in and yet I find time for this.
If none of this happened, then chances of this wish ever coming true would be little to none right now. That I am sure of.

BloodyDeed phrased it nicely

What stops you from doing so?
Skill? We all had to start somewhere?
Time? We all have family/GFs/uni/jobs, it's just a matter of priorities.

well I had been talking about the desert map with Heuroeox, i may have underestimated the challenges of a desert map during our conversation i suppose, but he seemed to think it was Plausible (it certainly gave him a few ideas).

Re: The Normandy Campaign
Here is something to think about, we would need all new textures on top of a level, a level that takes a year to fully complete by a dedicated mapper, something we don't have many of.RAF1996 wrote:well I had been talking about the desert map with Heuroeox, i may have underestimated the challenges of a desert map during our conversation i suppose, but he seemed to think it was Plausible (it certainly gave him a few ideas).
Not to mention, we just pulled a dedicated off current more pressing projects, a long with a texture artist or two. We just lost 2-3 key devs, to get that level done. For the time being, its not happening, simple as that. Asking for it wont cut it.

And seriously, we do need the mappers. We have alot of maps that can be started by even a novice, or easy as a first map. We just need those people to step forward. We will provide all the info and refs

Don't worry about it, RAF
. It just takes a whole amount of work to get it done. It's feasible though, but takes a lot of work.

Re: The Normandy Campaign
Haha, finally a voice of reason! i understand it takes a long time, I can see that. i was simply saying that it would be a nice thing to think about for the future. i have acctually just asked Heureox if he would like some help with anything to do with PN. despite my having no knowledge whatsoever of mapping, modelling anything. Afterdune, if there is anything i can help with give me a shout, seeing as so many people have said that they need more hands on deck, i'll do what i can

Re: The Normandy Campaign
mapping is easy to learn and do, you just have to have dedication, and time. and if you play PR and roam around the forums
you probably have that.

Like rodrigoma said, mapping is the most accessible field. If you're willing to map then we will assist you.

Oh nice, he had his name changed! You do a good job Rabbit, you're very talented and you work quite fast to be honest, and dat multitasking with like what.. 4 maps now?
Btw, mapping is "easy" but it's long and keeping morale is hard. RAF, you could probably do texturing too if you want.

Dear AD, [R-CON] rodrigoma,
From what I read in the other topics do you plan to develop OPERATION MARKET GARDEN .. Awesome
Would be the most complete map, involving practically every assets (vehicles - tanks - cannons - planes)
I have saved this link, which shows the evolution day by day, including videos and maps of this great battle of WWII
Operation Market Garden (Hell's Highway) chronology | Amazing Planet
I'm also in the movie bluray The BRIDGE TOO FAR
A Bridge Too Far Trailer [HD] - YouTube
I'm no good mapper or developer, but if you need help with historical survey, (books - maps and search) I am at the disposal

This is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning

Re: The Normandy Campaign
Im not planning anything, I have my hands full with maps already ;P
And I think I have had enough of making Hedges in Brecourt
I personally am always hoping for people to step up to make a map or just help out in other things.
Just in this thread you can see the example, people that decided to help out and learn to map.

If a total idiot like me could get mapping going, anybody here could do the same, or even more.
If BF2Editor wasn't such a ***** i would be mapping a lot now, loved it!.
