Re: No Squadleaders / Too many noobs
I dont understand peoples performance issues, all maps work pretty well for me with fps usually above 30 in any situation, very playable for me on my core 2 duo 7200 clocked to 3.2Ghz, 3 GB and XP and ati 4850 I think with 1GB ram. Server crashes are annoying but but am I going to switch to? BF3 *pffft* or some other FPS which will have even more appalling performance and less gameplay. I have shadows turned off, I presume you have all played with that option?

My computer system - should - be running PR at ~100 FPS. It runs it at maybe 15 currently. It's not my computer's fault.T.A.Sharps wrote:Talk to the people who run the server you play on the most, and upgrade your computer system before you come on the forums and post how woefully terrible you think PR is now.
I didn't say PR is terrible, either. It's just old.

Re: No Squadleaders / Too many noobs
I am a relatively new player. (PR1.0) 2 months or so I guess. I am having a great experience in PR. Couple quirks here and there but nothing to crazy. I have been watching this thread and the problems listed. Of these problems I only seem to be experiencing the server crash issues.
I run a fairly old pc (specs below) and find it surprising people with newer pc's are having worse performance than I do. I dont get great fps. Full server large maps 15 - 30 fps, 50 player server large maps 30 -50 fps. I have the usual server crash obviously but it seem to be on the full servers mostly. I keep my setting low and turn off un-needed programs running. I might have ctd every 10 rounds maybe, nothing to get bent out of shape about. Couple issues with mumble not giving my transmit icons. Have to get in-game, alt-tab out and restart mumble to get em to come up. Again not a big deal if used to mods.
Game play for me is still new so I may not be getting fed up with noob play as fast as a older player might. While it can be hard to get in a "team" oriented squad, if your persistent and watching you can jump into a good one before to long. One thing that helps keep me patient that others may not have is time. I alot 4 or more hours for a game session. With time on my side I am not in a big hurry to get it on. I rarely anymore wait to join full servers and will op to help seed another if I cant find a less populated server. I can see if I had only an hour or 2 to play I would be a bit more frustrated.
Just trying to add a bit of positivity to the conversation. There seems to be an air of "this is the end of PR" but for me it is anything but. Not to rub it but I am having a great experience here. Thanks to the developers for giving my BF2 even more shelf life. Cant wait to upgrade pc and try the new PR.

If you compare PR to a newer game of-course PR is going to disappoint performance wise.ShockUnitBlack wrote:My computer system - should - be running PR at ~100 FPS. It runs it at maybe 15 currently. It's not my computer's fault.

It is like comparing fuel economy on a 20 year old car and a similar one today and then wonder why you have to stop and refuel so often.
PR runs pretty well considered the BF2 engine is only firing on 1 cylinder.
If anyone is to blame it is the people who complain about the shitty graphics on an 8 year old game.... well now the developers made some nice graphics and performance took a hit because of that. If it stood to me PR should revert it's effects back to 0.98 where it worked fairly well.
Server's crash... they always have done once in a while, but I don't get it why it is such a big deal to rejoin and start on a fresh. It even helps scramble the often imbalanced teams.

... v.981 ran fine?
I'm not complaining about the quality of the graphics, either.
PR's just an old game running on an old engine that's been pushed well beyond its limits. I don't blame anybody for that, and I deeply admire the mileage both the devs and the community as a whole have gotten out of an eight-year-old game in the face of heavy competition not only from newer games, but also the passage of time.
It's been a good run. I'm hoping we can continue it in the future, on a new engine and with all the possibilities that that brings.

Re: No Squadleaders / Too many noobs
Ok folks, I finally had time to start playing PR/BF2 last night. WOW, what a great experience. I thought I'd play for an hour or two and wound up going to bed at 2AM, 8 hours after starting. Phew. Met some great guys who were very helpful even when I asked elementary questions and no one complained with those questions. Let me say thx again to all those who were so helpful. Fortunately after watching several vids of game play and doing an hour of local coop I was able to add to each squad, rack up some good kills and no tk's. I'm very impressed with how the PF dev's have tightly integrated PR with BF2 and added mumble, seamless.
Can't wait for more, hope to see some of you guys tonight.

Whenever i play on PR it's usually in a squad over teamspeak / Skype with my clan buddies, but i wont play it unless my clan members are on. Perhaps that's how other players feel, so they don't play in a squad.

(Reasons are already described from me, several times, in this forum)
Because of that, leading is a single nuisance. Especially with new players is slower gameplay with longer life periods necessary. Constant dieing and spawning makes teamwork nearly impossible and thats a matter of fact.
To say get it better by leading more is a realy simple black and white argument and dont solve any problem!
The question should be: Why people dont lead squads so often, or how can we make it more attractive, efficient or cool?

I agree that all other versions of PR up until 1.0 has been making the game-play slow down which was a good thing. Seems like you are rewarded more in 1.0 for using vanilla tactics rushing ftw.ChallengerCC wrote:The gameplay is to fast!

In my opinion squads should be made more dependent on each-other than they are now to improve the teamwork feeling.
I kinda doubt it is possible but perhaps you should need support vehicles in the cap zone simulating a supply-line in order to successfully cap a flag, like an apc/ifv heavy helicopter, the MV-22 or a logistic truck, so you can't cap it with just a bunch of infantry. If all your apc's and logistic trucks are destroyed you can't "advance" unless if you secure a landing zone for the helicopter or mv-22 to stick around long enough to cap the flag.
All those "1 squad in 1 building" flag take overs don't feel very realistic when the enemy has an apc roaming the area and the 1 squad does not. However infantry is important and should be the main force but only with the addition of vehicle's

Overcomplicating simple things - me likes it. Eventhough, it will not prevent 1 squad capping the flag camping in T building. IMO, reducing cap radius or removing building which might be used as camping cave might solve it.Gracler wrote:I kinda doubt it is possible but perhaps you should need support vehicles in the cap zone simulating a supply-line in order to successfully cap a flag, like an apc/ifv heavy helicopter, the MV-22 or a logistic truck, so you can't cap it with just a bunch of infantry. Re: No Squadleaders / Too many noobs
I led a squad for the first time in about a month last night on HOG during the second straight round of Shijia Valley. (Thank goodness an admin logged on or we would have had to play it 3x in a row) Anyways, it was fun and my squad did very well defending while the rest of the team never got around to a serious assault on the next objective (Abandoned Airport). We lost the round by 38 tickets but my squad performed admirably.
People are starving for some leadership. They just want to play a semi-organized round with some great PR teamwork. I try to give the people what they want.

Re: No Squadleaders / Too many noobs
I am leading 90% of time, just hate leading on the bluefor side on ins (to be honest, I hate Ins as a whole).
I realized this problem of lacking of leaders a while ago. Sometimes I join HOG and there are like 2 full functional inf squads and the rest of the squads are like free kits or recon **** with 5 unassigned guys on the team. I usually try to convince someone that has a nearly empty squad slot and does not want to lead to let me do it.
I even kick some good veteran players (usually people that I have been playing with for a while) from my squad sometimes to force them leading when I feel the team is running weak. I just say "X, I will be kicking you because we need leaders and you are too good to be just my peon. Make your own squad" then kick.

The problem with this in 1.0 is the 100 player servers.Death! wrote: I even kick some good veteran players (usually people that I have been playing with for a while) from my squad sometimes to force them leading when I feel the team is running weak. In 0.98 I used to create my own inf squad if I knew a good squad-leader already leading a full inf squad. Then I would act as his XO following his orders so he had close support of 11 men instead of just 5. Worked pretty well when the main SL is good.
In 1.0 9 out of 10 times there are no more squad slots free.

Re: No Squadleaders / Too many noobs
Almost same squads as in 098 but these recon, sniper, freekits squad are a waste of slots. APC, Tank and CAS Squads were there before and MEch Inf is basicly an Infantry Squad mostly leaded by an Officer not by an Crewman. Sniper Squads are really a waste...there are 8 Slots available and most of the itme you have one sniper in it without a spotter (so he cant mark shit and dont need a squad at all) and rest of people join because the other freekits squads is already full or cool kits are taken. Squadleaders who are not able to create a working squad should be resigned...
