No Squadleaders / Too many noobs

So step up and start leading people. This is the only way to get it better. Complaining on forum won't make it better.

I have played PR since summer (3-4 months now), mostly on weekends.
I don't have enough experience to be a squad leader. Too soon, I'm just too new. I have played different kits many times that I should be 'good at those'. Which does not make me a noob anymore

Those who are more experienced and English is their native language should 'automatically' step-up and be a squad leader. You have two advantages which for example I don't have.

Almost same squads as in 098 but these recon, sniper, freekits squad are a waste of slots.

Your right it is the same only now you have almost double the amount of players to place in the squads and the squads only expanded by 25% when it comes to infantry squads and 0% when it comes to many other types of squads because they are locked before filling up.

This has resulted in players either not joining any squads or they join A squad just to join something so they don't get kicked automatically.

4. APC (2-6 players)
5. MECH inf (8 players)
6. Inf (8 players)
7. Recon (4 players)
8. Sniper(1-2 players)

Shown above is 36 players occupied worst scenario and exactly 50 at the best with a lot of wasted potential in the free kit's squad. This is how it mostly plays out.
In 0.98 the worst case would been enough with 32 players.

I'm not hating on the 100 player change, but on the lack of change in how the game is played. You almost get banned from any server using a helicopter in an inf squad although you can transport 1 full squad (7 people) instead of wasting 1 squad just for 1 or 2 pilots who sit in main most of the time. Mech inf is now acceptable but why not airborne inf?

People always talking about how they are PR-vets, how PR was great way back when, but they will just sit there on a map and watch it go to hell, and complain to the rest of us in their squad.

Influencing the suck themselves, because you know they know what is wrong, but they don't do anything.

What would you suggest us "vets" do?
Players can only do what the servers administrators promote on their servers. The community wanted the present day situation and the admins obliged.

Yeah, newbs will be newbs. But in a short while, the newbs will learn about the game, how to play, and what to do. Just always remember, you were a newb once, just like everybody else.

Each day I have to fight to get sm to do as asked.

Those are some of the stupid replies I often get. Lack of communication is also growing.

Common sense is getting more uncommon.

Many new players lack common sense, others, people I know for very very long, have grown bored/frustrated of that and find another way to have fun in PR. Guess you've seen that on Fallujah

You can call people that lock their squad elitist or whatever but to be fair, rather that then die from a tumor caused by the outrage ignorant people provoke.

I've only been playing PR since 1.0 came out so I don't think I'm suited to squad lead but I've done it seven~ times now.

I usually become SL because either because no one creates a squad, I'll wait til the 0:30 mark to make one, or because SL leaves in the middle of the round for one reason or another.

Squad leading is a bit tricky at first because you have a bunch of responsibilities, but what I've come to realize is that as long as you're good at communicating what you want the squad to do it's not a problem at all.

Most players will respect you as SL and do what they're told even if you're new to it, veterans usually have good tips for any given situation and I tend to roll with their recommendations.

Of course there are also times when you get a sniper / marksman in your squad who doesn't have a mic and run to the opposite side of the map without responding, at which point: MANAGE SQUAD -> KICK

I got the one public squad per week rule.

As much as i hate pubbies based on bad experience, i want to give a chance to those who are actually willing to deliver teamplay.

But the amount of micro-managing keeps killing my nerves. Playing with your clan-buddies / people you know is so much better and more satisfying.

Clan-buddies playing together is one reason why we don't have squad leaders and noobs are running around and doing stuff they are not supposed to do like wasting assets and going solo just to end up dead instantly.
Better have two balanced squads than one squad with clan members only and second squad noobs only. Clan members should spread around that experience what they have and create squads and let noobs join. You only need few clan members to create a fully working squad.
Now I only see locked 6-8 member clan squads and if you some how manage to join in one of those squads in hope to get awesome teamplay, you'll end up kicked out, but squads stays 1-2 man short for rest of the round.
This is not a rant, it's merely a suggestion how to fix topic's problem.

The problem with this is, once you begin to play with a certain set of people, e.g your clan you do not wan't to play with anyone else. They know your play style and you know theirs. I know i can run through that door and i may get blown away but my guys will be in to mop up and get me up. With pubbies you all end up walking on a grenade and boom, nato stackup.

Now I'm not saying all pubbies are useless but you get my point.

TLDR; Your always gonna have a better time with the people you regularly play with.

Its not like all clanmembers good squadleaders or want to squadlead. In our clan for example there are 3 people who really lead the squad, if they are not online our members join other squads who have a squadleader.

And of course you like to play with people you know, thats why you create or join a clan...

If there is a closed squad the best way to get in the squad is to ask the squadleader in pr mumble or teamchat, usually they will open or at least respond why they closed their squad. If squads stay open it almost happens all the time that some funny kitgrabber joins and takes the heavy MG kit or a marksman and is going to lonewulf. Sure you can kick him, but that kit is gone, so squads often stay closed. And if you want to make sure that they dont kick you out for no reason say hello when you join the squad and ask what you should do, people who dont say anyting or do not respond at all usually get kicked...

I used to play in 0.97, returned for 1.0, I noticed this and surprised to find a thread about it, although to me it was more like the PR vets arent as many is they were and have moved on, leaving the noobs to screw around, that was my feeling.

For me Im not really fit to squad lead, language barrier I guess, and the situations infantry squads get themselves in are usually hectic, but I really appreciate playing with good (genuinely good) and calm SLs, the fun is x10 more

but Im very comfortable in leading a 6 man, 3 tank squad, although past few days were really frustrating dealing with noobs, one whos happy to jump in a tank with no mumble, one who insists on using AP on infantry and couldnt hit a tank 5 meters in front of him, other tanks that dont respond/barely speak english... it sucks the fun out of the game even if we win.

Firstly sorry for this necromancy, I dont know if rising a 3 year old thread from the realm of dead is better then starting a new one.

Now to the point, dont you feel the urgent lack of squadleaders? I mostly play at around 20 to 23 +1 GTM and even at the most populated servers, there seemes to be only one or two inf squads with actual squadleaders and those are mostly some clan-friends who dont allow other people to join. Apart those 1 or 2 squads there are 3 full leaderless and unorganized squads running around as headless chickens. Is it just me and my bad playing time or do you feel the same? Has everyone moved to Squad or what?

P.S.: I have not become squadleader for 2 reasons. I dont have time to get good enough in this game (know the maps and mechanics) and my personality is not that good to be a leader.

Yeah good squadleading depends on the map you are playing imo.
On some Maps a lot of guys dont want to Do the sl Stuff.

Been trying to Do the squadlead thing a Couple of times but im loosing battlefield awareness too Quick in imho. All this Micromanagement is too much haha

Exactly. These days you have to micromanage your squad because the majority simply don't know what they're doing. Thus the locked squads with clans and lack of SLs for smurfs.

When you have a group of new players not investing in such a way the 'older' generation did, you will see that there become less and less 'good' squad leaders. Since the group of people playing PR changed and the game changed you will also see a change in how people approach the game. People hop in and play without investing much time into how the game should be played (they can be a medic, but not necessarily be a good one).

As a squad leader it is really difficult to execute your plans if the amount of people with a lack of knowledge is bigger than half the squad size. I would say, if you consider yourself not fit a squad leading role, do your best to guide the players with a lack of knowledge in your squad so your SL can focus more on the bigger plan.

I agree, nowadays leading a squad of random people is mostly telling each member exactly what to do in every next situation. I have kinda lost my interest in squadleading because of this because it requires so much more energy and repeating things that you didn't have to at an earlier point in PR's history. Of course, it is still as enjoyable some times when there are also some experienced players in the squad that help with the people who just wait to be told what to do.

I want to tell the new people, just because you are a squad member doesn't mean that you can't act by yourself. Don't always wait to be told what to do. If the squad leader has to tell 7 other people what to do at all times while also speaking to other squads and planning the next move, then you are not contributing to your squad. Think ahead, know your role and don't let the squad leader repeat 10 times "Where's the guy with the rope?" or telling you how to aim your grenade launcher. Invest some time in local servers and check out the weapons if not else.

When SL'ing, there have been times that I will have a great bunch of guys in the squad but I need a spot for one of my friends. I pick out two players and lay it out for them:

1. Ok, I'm kicking you and you out of the squad at the same time.
2. Prepare yourself and whoever gets back in first gets to stay.
3. 1-2-3 - GO
4. Friend joins
5. One of the two make it back in.

HEHEHEHE..... Bacon Eggs Cody came up with this and I've used it ever since.
