A lot of those details you're never really going to notice from a player's perspective. Anyways, while you're at it, do the MEC cammies, and the PLA cammies :D .

Was wondering, is it possible to play PR on local coop with manually changed textures? Or it won't even launch cuz the launcher would find out the files had been changed?

I would use the similar colors that I did for the MEC, slightly based them off of the Iranian, Saudi, and Iraqi colors in a way.

Make a copy of your PR folder and call it pr_edit. In there you can do w/e you want and launcher wont bother you.

if the texture is in the right place yea :) (i.e. where the current texture is now)

we all use pr_edit to work on our projects without interfering with our ability to play with the community

well team members have pr, pr_edit, pr_test I also have pr_backup :P

Right Hokunin going to post some feedback here so I don't have to keep on sending you more PMs and just edit this post if I find something else and so others can learn from it and put their input in too if need be :)

First of all, textures are a massive improvement over the last, nice work! :D

For your spec map, most of your edits like making the instrument glass shiny etc are good but one thing I don't get is why you've made the Red Start and Numbers super shiny? Afaik they are just painted on with the same type of paint the rest of the chopper is painted in, its just a different colour?
Here's your numbers and Red Start without the spec reflecting off of them:

One other thing you may want to consider copying directly from the MEC Mi-17's spec texture, or doing something similar with your own is putting in the rivets like so as they are just a nice bit of detail:

I've left them on the MEC's one for now and other than they don't quite match up with your new rivets, they still add a nice feel that I think its worth trying to do with yours :D

Speaking of the rivets you may also want to make them more apparent in your normal map, which btw has suffered from a bit of re-re-compression since you sent it in .dds saved in DXT5 where it needed to be saved in DXT1 so if you could send me its .psd (preferably with all the layers) or as a .tga or something at the very least that would be good :D

Moving on to some small diffuse errors I've spotted, first the front and back of what I think are the fuel tanks don't match their middle texture. Also visible on the MEC texture, although mainly the front the back just has a little seam:

This Russian tail rotor warning is also backwards on the right side, not much you can do about it since the texture is reflected other than possibly removing it, will leave that up to you to decide on:

New 1p texture looks good, I also modified the materials shader to allow for your spec map which dose help although it could also do with a normal map too if you feel like making one :)

I'd personally recommend using a harder brush for the camo. It's too soft and it makes the rest of your wonderful textures look blurry in comparison to the Russian version.

Here are a few very loose refs you may be able to draw inspiration from:

Free File Sharing and Storage made Simple.

You could possibly use the monotone tan from other mec vehicles for the camo and make the bottom white/blue. To make it pop you could add some of the painted details similar to the Pakistani ref I included. You have a lot of freedom in what you can do given that the MEC are fictional. Can't wait to see these in game

Hokunin, please provide me your references for Mi-8. Something tells me you aim at something fancy like MTV-5 or AMTSh, while in PR we use workhorse Mi-8MT.

I just googled Mi8 and found bunch of photos from which I simply chose some with disregard to model types.


I didn't know it was assumed to be some special type of mi8.

Can you provide photo references of how it properly should look(both navy and airforce versions)? I guess I can correct it later on.
