Why don't people like Vietnam maps?
Why don't people like Vietnam maps? They're my favourite, but its a real rarity that in deployment I see a Vietnam map. Honestly they're all fun, and really balanced, because in the jungle you're either gonna kill, or get killed, and it punishes just straight out zerg rushing objectives.

Bushcamping is frustrating. Lack of optics in the BF2 engine is frustrating.
Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.
The only winning move is not to play. Insurgency, that is.

Lack of optics and too few good maps are the main reasons it is so underplayed.
Ia Drang is the only map I personally (as well as others) are really willing to play as well as keep a good server population.

Tad Sae, Barracuda, and Charlies Point are extremely unbalanced maps. That leaves only Ia Drang and Hill 488 as maps worth playing.
Hill 488 is a 1km map, but it is never used to seed.
So that leaves only Ia Drang. That is the only Vietnam map that players will ever play on.

Majority prefers 200 meter or bigger range engagements and that is why they are not good at PR.
I like Vietnam - pure CQB and its about infantry skills.

As others have said, it's really a map issue for the most part. Whilst I enjoy Barracuda Vietnam, it is extremely hard for the US team which usually leaves Ia Drang - which has problems with a massive over-saturation of bushes leading to derpy whack-a-mole gameplay.

I feel the problem with Ia drang is the weird flag setup. YES I KNOW, it's realistic the way the battle happend and all but it is just frustrating trying to capture and hold 3 flags.

To me, it doesn't feel like PR at all. I also don't like it because most of the models are lower quality than normal PR ones. This is one of the reasons I don't like PR:WW2 too.

Which models specifically? The weapons and player models all look good to me, as well as most of the vehicles, with the exception of some of the boats and that weird tracked logistics thing. Also the interior of the Choctaw is pretty basic I guess.PatrickLA_CA wrote:To me, it doesn't feel like PR at all. Barracuda Vietnam is ok for me. The other maps lead always to camping in the silent collisionless bushes, thats frustrating.

Imma probably opposite, but i do like vietnam especially for opticless warfare. No camping ducks with optics, pure supression fire

Some of the weapons exclusive to PR:V and most player models' textures quality is pretty low, compared to the basic PR.Jedimushroom wrote:Which models specifically? For PR:WWII most of the weapons and vehicles have low quality textures as well as the maps don't feel as detailed.
I usually don't care that much about graphics so I'm not saying that it's bad, it's just that I prefer modern day PR over Vietnam and WWII.

I agree that Charlie's Point and Vietnam Barracuda are definitely unbalanced. NVA pretty much always win those two unless USA has a strong team.
Ia Drang is a lot of fun though, unless you have a squad that's all over the map, then you get slaughtered.

Re: Why don't people like Vietnam maps?
Vietnam is underplayed thankfully because it is in short basically incomplete.
PR:V does not showcase Project Reality's finer points, this would be teamwork and communication in a wide spectrum of variables that includes assets and modern war mechanics. That being said yes you can "Teamwork" the hell out of 9 infantry squads, but the finer aspect of PR I am talking about is game play variables that require teamwork and communication between different squad types.
i.e. RedFor APC shows up and pins down infantry in the city. BluFor Tanks are called in to support and dislodge APC from position at a distance. RedFor assault inf team counteracts with CAS Laze on tanks.
in Vietnam its... Go to flag on foot, see enemys engage call for help, second squad comes wipes out enemy. New enemy wave comes wipes out friendly wave. Rinse and Repeat.
Personally there are times I enjoy Vietnam but generally speaking I just wish it had a wider range of variables.
