lightmaps= Pre-rendered shadows on the ground and buildings.
skysettings= contains all the pretty stuff you see. The colors of everything.
skybox=skytexture= texture in the sky
fog= fading objects and terrain away into a particular color of fog. Has all sorts of settings. Mostly color and brightness values.
viewdistance= hard cut of rendering. Also where lazers and all that stop working. So if the fog setting is bad, you sometimes have lazing working beyond the fog.
Let's all use the same terminology please.
Viewdistance is either maxed out performance wise, or is put lower to provide better gameplay. Usually infantry layers/maps do this. Asset maps usually go as high as possible. Specially jet maps.
As far as altering sky settings, I'm not very keen on doing so. The original mappers went for a certain look and style of their maps and layers, I don't want to go against that. We do update them from time to time though. Like we did with kashan, or some of the reworked maps in v1.4 for example. But usually not drastically changing the color and look of a map. Unless the mapper himself does so of course. But small changes like you did on Fallujah seem to be alright

Feel free to send over the sky.con of that one
