1989
If someone wants to make a 1989 submod of cold war I will help. US/USSR wouldn't require any new weapons* or vehicles, just vehicle reskins and new character models. Could be fun.
US:
M16A2 (use M16 model from Hamas LAT kit, but with burst instead of auto)
FN Minimi model for AR instead of modern M249 model
M240 std and M60 alt for MG
M24 sniper and scoped M14 from vietnam for sniper/marksman
Stinger for AA
AT4/M72 LAT
*HAT should probably be M47 Dragon, but SRAW could be used as placeholder
Humvees (no uparmored) and MUTT jeep for light vehicles, M35 trucks, Blackhawks, Chinooks
APCs are M113 with 50 cal, no gun shield, and Bradley
Tank is M1A1 Abrams
CAS is A-10, F-16, F-15 (although maybe not add bc there's no soviet 2 seater), Apache, vietnam CAS huey
USSR:
AK-74 (brown/orange version)
RPK-74 (brown/orange version)
PKM, SVD for sniper AND marksman
Igla for AA, RPG-7 PG-7VR for HAT
RPG-26/RPG-7 PG-7V LAT
UAZ-469s, old Ural trucks from before Kamaz update, Mi-8s
APCs are BTR-60, BMP-1, BMP-2
Tank is T-72B (use B1 model but give it same ATGM as T-72S)
CAS is Su-25, MiG-29
If you wanted to take it farther you could add East/West Germans
G3s / AK-74s
MG3 / RPK and PKM
PzF-44 LAT and Carl G HAT (both need model), RPG-7 LAT and HAT
M113 and Marder 1 (needs model), BTR-60 and BMP-1
Leopard 1A5 or 2A2 (both need model), T-72M

Re: 1989
I think this might kinda over lap with the Modern aspect to be honest.
If work is going to be placed l would very much much be more interested in watching a Korean war section, it would expand the Vietnam section we already have which would be a great addition

The overlap with modern makes it less work than making a whole korean warBrotherscompany wrote:I think this might kinda over lap with the Modern aspect to be honest.

What notable conflict would you be thinking of between the U.S. and Russia in 1989?piratepengu wrote:If someone wants to make a 1989 submod of cold war I will help. US/USSR wouldn't require any new weapons* or vehicles, just vehicle reskins and new character models. Could be fun.
The only one I remember is the American insurgent forces fighting the Russian air invasion of 1984...

And like for every faction suggestion that appear here, if you want to see it in game, you will need to make it. And that brings us to what Brotherscompany is effectively saying, this will take a lot of time and work to even bring to PR (specially on map side, as maps are what makes or breaks community faction/mod project). At this point, if you want to do modding (or mapping), jumping on one of active community faction/mod projects would be much better decision or doing some of many community tasks from this wish list.piratepengu wrote:If someone wants to make a 1989 submod of cold war I will help. Re: 1989
i really wanted a cold war submod, and this seems like a window of opportunity (though sadly i can't mod)
this can be really awesome, US with UMSC, UK, West and East Germany
btw, the M16A1 can still fit, because in the early to mid 80s the US army still had the A1 while the USMC completely replaced it with the A2, and even in the later 80s and early 90s, the US Army kept the A1, atleast for rear echelon, national guard and such, and the British brought the A1 including the dwarf carbines in the Falklands, Ireland, Hong Kong, and West Germany had them too though still used the HK-91 aka the G3A3 (until the G36 came in 1995 and fully replaced the G3A3 in 1997), and sadly the G41 and G11 weapons being cancelled aside from having a few models produced
also, for East Germans it should be the MPi-K rifles, while they are AK variants (both 7.62 and 5.45 types), also have the RPD and RPG-18

I think that this is something that could be done also by just 1 person, because 90% of the stuff required is already there, you should just do the characters models, and textures for both characters and vehicles. And Obv you also need to make a couple maps.
M16A2 - is in the already in the game
FN Minimi - is in the already in the game
M240 and M60 - are both already in game
M24 sniper and scoped M14 - are both already in game
Stinger is in game
AT4/M72 LAT are in game
US HAT M47 Dragon must be done
All vehicles are in game and just need the textures from '89

Re: 1989
I would love a cold war gone hot scenario for PR. It would need a lot of work. Especially maps set in 1980's US and Europe and Asia. Can you imagine doing drivebys in 80's Los Angeles? Or how about fighting inside of the twin towers of 80's New York? How about a massive tank battle in the fulda gap. Hell I'd love to fight in 1980's neon illuminated Tokyo. And oh I'd love a Hong Kong map set in the 80's too. Any asian map would suffice. As long as it has enough neon. Miami too! You know what would be cool? Kowloon City infantry only map set during the Kumite.
P.S. Avoid labeling your projects with the year they're set in. It's amateurish and pretentious. And betrays a lack of creativity. Code names are fine, but not projects released to the public.

Maps are what matters. no Cold War style maps, it would be just playing with bf2coldwarmod
