Prior the about the 1st year of conflict in Iraq, that's how the USMC and US Army operated in Iraq, with open door/back hatch humvee's. Because in a direct contact engagement, that was the best bet, to get as many guns pointed at the enemy as quickly as possible. Only with the rise in IED's did the armor start appearing. Another main reason was that is was much cooler (temp. wise) to have the doors off, but that's not exactly something you can simulate in the game.

Yeah, it's strange with the .50cal hummers. Everyone has to sit in the open rear but there are 3 very nice, compfortable (and protected) empty passenger seats inside the cabin! Where would you rather sit?
The ToW mounted Hummer (Al Basrah) takes 5 people doesn't it? Driver, Gunner, Front passenger and two rear passenger (in their seats!) I'm sure the ToW hummer model is big enough to take 1 more passenger so with this in mind, why do we have a .50cal hummer with 4 people sitting in the open rear?
Get them inside DEVS!
Same goes for the Blackhawk. I mentioned in another post it needs a 3 man crew (Pilot and 2 Gunners) and 6 passenger seats. THE SEATS ARE THERE! Yet we can't use them. The APC is stated to now carry 8 total so I don't see why 9 in a Blackhawk is a problem to be honest.
EDIT* I'd like to make it clear that talking about the Blackhawk doesn't mean I don't think the equivelent transport heli for other factions should be updated seating-wise too. The Chinese, MEC and possible UK heli should all carry 9.

The humvee's in somalia were a mix. 10th mountain kept their guys inside for the most part, and the rangers were inside/outside depending on the mission. Their doors were supposed "armored" but the AK round passed right through it, only the glass was really bullet resistent.
If you want reality, then yes, in reality we sit enclosed in armored humvee's that can stop any number of small arm's ammunition, so do the brits. But what about the chinese/MEC. They don't use that capability yet so are you going to excuse reality and give them armored cars?

The Tow HUMVEE is from another BF2 mod (some gulf war one - cant think of name, odd, but irrelavent) and the repair HUMVEE.
However it seems most DEVs dotn give a toss, they think alot of other things are more important - they have that right but we can protest and hope to change their opinion with CLEVEr and SUBTLE arguments.
I do like the idea of 9 peeps in certain helis but for the moment 7 is pretty DAmn fine improvement!!!

Of course not. That would defeat the point of this mod. They should stay how they are. That may not seem fair but what do the insurgents faction have? Toyota technicals.WNxKenwayy wrote: But what about the chinese/MEC. They don't use that capability yet so are you going to excuse reality and give them armored cars?
MEC are currently exposed at the rear, yes. All that needs is a door or maybe half door?
Anyway there should always be some elements of one team that seem grossly unfair to the other's equivelent, but you counter these by having something else which is beneficial for the other team. Like commander designated IEDs maybe?
Agreed, 7 in the BH is a great improvement and I thank the DEVs for it.

Well, I for on sat in a unarmored Humvee all the way from Kuwait into Baghdad and let me tell you it was not pretty. Had a bullet go right through my seatbelt where it attaches to the frame.
Anyway, I agree, realisticly, by the time I was getting out of there they had pretty much gotten a 60/40 ratio of armored humvees to non armored,
