robbo wrote:The Hind D has virtually no defence against SAMs especially the Stinger and SA7 . When the Soviets attacked Afganistan the west sold numerous Stinger missiles to the afgani rebels. I remeber watching a documenty about the Soviet Hind on the history channel they interviewed a Former Spetsnaz guy and he said the only way to avoid the stinger was to face it head on and try to dodge it other wise your done for. This is of the Mi8 but their defence systems are roughly the same... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZnGc_MBm1U

the hind-ds systems were upgraded after the experiences in afghanistan (rather during - not after) - still, of course it will be shot down by an aa missile - but at least it wont be downed from small arms fire like an apache in iraq (which would have a hard time against a russian surface to air rocket just like the hind has trouble with a stinger).
but still, this was the hind-d, what i was prorposed was a totally different version - overhauled and up-to-date

Besides, against some of the AA weapons ig, I doubt whether being big and slow or small and fast is going to make a lot of difference.

Oh youdont have to worry about that. Oly the MEC(and PLA too) Have the insanely overpowered Air-2-Air weapon, so it should be fine.

yeah, and also, the apache is not exactly what i would call small (and maneuverable) - though of course, its smaller than the hind

I think the Mi-24 would be a great addition, imagine being attacked by this thing! It would scare the **** out of me. With three squad leaders in the back HALOing troops, and rockets and chain gun fire everywhere, this thing would own!

Slow, outdated, looks to big to be an attack helicopter so it would suit the MEC perfectly with their outdated G3s :-D .

But wouldnt it be unfair to put it up against the brit WAH 64, US Super Cobra or the Chinease thing. The superhind still wouldnt be able to go up against the WAH 64 or the Super Cobra.

They arnt supposed to "go up against" other helis. This isnt the Iran-Iraq war. It the stuff on the ground that needs to be worried!
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

u do realise if the HIND was to be included, the MEC would not need a transport helo

as for the 30mm, that thing would own EVERYTHING apart from say an Abrams or C2

APCs would not stand a chance

still like the idea tho, giving the MEC only 1 type of helo, means they can work together better and it adds a bit of difference to PR

@robbo

ah, you know that the hind could be fitted with superior (russian) aa missiles than the apache and the super cobra?
but probably yes, the hind would be inferior to the apache (dont know about the super cobra though) - but you´re misunderstanding me - the hind would not be the mec equivalent for the apache, rather would it be something unique - because its a very capable ground attack chopper and can carry troops - also it would probably be the best armored chopper ingame

the mec equivalent for the apache would either be the hokum or the havoc

You guys don't understand just how much of a magnet it will be for everything in PR. Sure it's good in real life but that's becuase it can kill things out of range, in PR it'll just be a big target. Just look at how it is in POE2. About 100X inferior to the Tiger HAP.

I say just keep the Mi-28 Havoc or give MEC the Panha/Iranian Upgraded Cobra. Much more useful in terms of the scope of BF2.

I'd rather take my chances in an FAV or Jeep (for killing and transport) anyday than a Hind in PR. Armoured or not, for realism it would have to go down in one shot from a SRAW or Tank shell. Both of which would be extremly easy as the HIND would have to get upclose and personal just to see any damn targets.

The Mi-28 is more like the Apache anyway, in terms of size.

If the MEC got the Hind, nobody would play MEC. It sucks, just like it sucked in USI and POE2. Just like how everyone was U.S in USI and Germany in POE2. The Hind simply cannot be done in BF2.

I'll say it again, if you really want MEC to have a new helicopter. Give them the Panha 2091. It's Iranian, sure the U.S stopped delivering parts but they've made their own parts for it and upgraded the old Cobras.

@dunkellic

Ah Im not against the idea mate just concerd it would get raped by anything in the air. Yeah i no the Hind can be armed with AA missiles but i dont think they are superior plus the Apache im talking about inst the old American one its the new improved british WAH 64

Differences from AH-64

The UK's Strategic Defence Review called for Apaches to undertake amphibious attack missions, operating from HMS Ocean, the Invincible class aircraft carriers and their successors, the (Royal Navy CVF programme), and possibly the amphibious assault vessels HMS Bulwark and HMS Albion. As such, one of the major differences between the WAH-64 and AH-64 Apache variants is the folding blade mechanism, required to stow the helicopters in the confined space onboard ship.

The Apache will serve aboard Royal Navy ships having achieved maritime certification in December 2005 aboard the helicopter carrier HMS Ocean. Then on November 17th, 2006, HMS Ark Royal became the first RN aircraft carrier to land a WAH-64D AH Mk 1 Apache at Portsmouth Naval Base.

There are other differences between them, including

* Rolls-Royce (British-made) RTM322 engines instead of the US General Electric T700s. The Rolls-Royce engines produce nearly 25% more power than their GE counter-parts, although only exploited during take-offs due to the existing Apache transmission system.[1]. This engine is currently under evaluation by the U.S. Government, with a view to updating their AH-64s. A new transmission system to utilise all the available power is also in development.[2]
* Anti-ice protection for rotor blades.
* SELEX (formerly BAE Systems Avionics) Helicopter Integrated Defensive Aids System (HIDAS).
* Connectivity with the BOWMAN secure communications system.
* Capability to carry and fire CRV7 rockets and the advanced Brimstone missile.

The Brit WAH 64 has the Star Streak missiles :)

ah, guys come on:

THE HIND SHOULD NOT REPLACE THE HAVOC!
it at all, it should replace the current extremly-crappy mec transport chopper.
also, the hind is quite fast, compared to the current apache version the americans use at the moment (it just little bit slower - with one and a half time the mass).
by the way, the hind is much more of a direct attack chopper than the apache - at least thats the way the soviets used them - more like a fixed wing aicraft, because hinds are not as good for sneaking and hiding like for example an apache. just give them a hell of a load of at missiles and rocket pods (by the way, even in pr you cann kill tanks/apcs from afar with the laser guided rockets)

read above!

no, it would not have to go down with one shot (depends on where you hit) - EVEN THE CURRENT LITTLEBIRD/BLACKHAWK DOES NOT GO DOWN WITH ONE SHOT, so the hind should be even thougher.
the hind would be even less prone for being shot down than the blackhawk, because it is better armored, it has a closed crew departement (you can shot passangers out of a blackhawk) and it could clean the landing site much better than any blackhawk, because it got a nearly 360° 20mm guun (depends on the version), plus aa/at rockets and rocketpots - also you can attack tanks from far away (why in gods name would the hind have to get up close - because of the limited viewing range? - it would still have a big advantage compared to tanks)

Mekstizzle wrote: If the MEC got the Hind, nobody would play MEC. It sucks, just like it sucked in USI and POE2. Just like how everyone was U.S in USI and Germany in POE2. The Hind simply cannot be done in BF2.
correct me if i´m wrong, but currently in terms of choppers mec and china are way inferior to the us - the big transport helis of both, mec and china are **** compared to the blackhawk and currently they dont even got an equivalent for the littlebird.
so they could either implement the hind as a mec-blackhawk or making it just a unique kind of chopper, but leave out a little-bird replacement.

this would only lead to confusion ingame, also this would make the parties too much the same, wihthout their own charakter.
i would keep the mi-28, add the mi-24/35 and once enough human ressources are free perhaps even add the hokum

i dont know the exact name of the missiles, but the russians currently have the most advanced anti-air missiles
when i was talking about the apache, i was more or less refering to the ah-64D, the american ones get updates too ;)

Have the American AH64s gone under any updates? I know that the Royal Navy are doing tests to make the Apache be able to operate at sea

Basically, what I think people are getting at is: include the Mi-24 HIND, and leave the flying cow and Havoc, and let the map designers choose which is the most appropriate vehicle for the map.

The HIND will bring a unique, and interesting twist to the battlefield, and also, you don't have to model/skin anything new! Yay!

If the DEVs bring the Mi24 hind into the game please can they make it so the wheels come up when you take off i mean the thing looks ugly enough without 3 big wheels hanging out of the bottom lol
