bayonets

Post by Tom#13 »

untill last week i was pretty sure bayonets were disgaurded by the british army after falklands but i was reading an article which said that a british patrol was ambushed but drove the attackers off with a bayonet charge and british soldiers are still trained with bayonets. and seing as this is a reality mod i think they should be included as they are general issue. what would be cool if say you had the bayonet instead of a knife and could carry it just like the knife or attach it to the end of the gun. i dont think the yanks use them and im not sure about china but an interesting thing for the brits at least. so tell me what you think :)

It is standard training still. The issued knife can attach to the end of the SA80 and probaly all other suitable guns in use.

I remember playing bayonet war with Chinook and Thadeous, both lead designers on XWWII. I sucked SO bad at it.
seperate one that used the bayonet when you hit the secondary fire button.
Naw, you just made a quick thrust with the bayonet when you pressed sec. fire.

he means that in your weapon iventory you would have 2 spots with the same weapon, one thats sec fire was to put it into ironsights and the other that used the bayonet.... road to rome did something similar didnt they?

No he didn't. If he did, he would be wrong. You had two different rifles (which was supposedly the same) and if you chose the second one, you would have a bayonet on it. There was never any actual animation of it being put on. Secondary fire made you thrust the bayonet, instead as on the other rifle, use the sights.

i think were all saying the same thing... arent we? i never played that WWII mod but im guessing it was close to what RTR had. if you used 1 of the rifles and hit sec fire, he would perform a stab with the bayonet, if you used the other rifle (supposedly the same as the first) and hit sec fire, you would (in RTR at last) zoom in or (in the mod youre talking about apparently) raise the weapon so that you are aiming through iron sights.

Just like the grenade launcer is a seperate thing to choose but an animation fliks it up, is what is needed with the bayonet.
So you press key #4 (or whatever) and a nice animation clicks on your killer sword  and your set! But i do then think where the grenade launcher secondary fire is 'iron sights/close aim' this one could be 'stab stab' and the Primary fire button would fire it in whatever mode you left it in eg single shot/burst/auto etc.

Just so you can choose to have it stuck on the end of your gun or not. Personally i would only have it on when i needed it.

The only other way which might not be possible in bf2 would be to press key *** to lock your knife on and then assign another key to use it. i think the other way is better tbh.

Probably not in an initial release, but we would like to diversify close combat beyond just different types of knives. Fixed bayonets and entrenching tools are among the things that have been tossed around as alternates.

The US most definitely still uses them. Fixed bayonets are still a useful close combat weapon even in this day and age and US forces do train to fight with fixed bayonets (pugil stick force-on-force training as well as bayonet assault courses with targets), and bayonets have been used by the Army and Marines in combat in Iraq, both during the initial invasion and in anti-riot formations in peacekeeping operations.

"In a world ravaged by nuclear war, one man will rise from the ashes"

haha! hilarious picture, but the rifle looks like it can't shoot with the bayonet attached. Not that it would help, but still.

No, it attaches over the barrel; you are shooting through the handle and across the length of the tang and blade if you fire the L85/86 with a fixed bayonet.

Dang, it looks like a fisher-price toy when it's like that. All hollow and plasticy.
