it is something specific to the BF2 net code, I am nearly certain.

Setting CPU affinity for bf2.exe to 1 CPU only can sometimes help.

Same issue does not exist in BF2142 (in my experience), just VBF2 and PR (and / or any other BF2 mod)

BF2 just seems to be very very sensitive to connection state, and I think if it looses session it will terminate the connection rather than risk synching with the wrong client.
My guess is it is an over-reaction of DICE trying to stamp out 3rd part client cheats...some systems are more susceptable to it that others.

The fact that it doesnt occur on BF2142 tells me there are some net-code fixes they have implemented in the enwer code for 2142 (the other clue is the fact 2142 takes about 3 seconds to connect to master server, whereas BF2142 can take over a minute). Possibly too difficult toe retro-fit to BF2, so they just ignore it and pretend it's not hapenning in stead (even though I'm sure if you google, there are THOUSANDS of cases of it hapenning)

So it is clearly GAME-side, and a problem with the net coding of BF2?

I'd agree with this, as it doesn't happen to any of my other games, not even 2142.

What measures can we take to help prevent these disconnects, and how do we go about implimenting them?

Lothrian wrote:as for the connection - I get it a lot on Thors and IGI, so I dont play on them. I think its more the server than anything else. Not sure why, but like I said, I am very prone to it onThors and IGI, but I just played 2 matches on DEVFile without a single hitch (UK player - so its nothing to do with lag)

Same symptoms - IGI, Thors - keyboard-breaking annoyance.

Will try different servers.

With me it only happens when playing PR. POE2 or regular BF2 give me no issues at all.

I had this on PTG server today. Z.User said about 18 of us got disconnected at same time. and for a couple of minutes PTG server was not in the ingame browser but I was talking to Z.user on xfire who was still on the server, and xfire was showing the server? wierd.
Had to wait a minute to rejoin.

So I have this problem a lot. I'm good for about 30 minutes and then poof, there goes my connection. I tried all the things in this guide:

http://www.grinn.net/blog/dev/2006/11/y ... -lost.html

Maybe this guide will be helpful to y'all. I can't figure out what's up. I reformatted, reinstalled, and updated everything just to be sure. Finally, today I called the cable company and they are sending someone out tomorrow. I'm hoping its on their end, cause I'm out of options.

I've seen threads going back to BF2's initial release with this problem. It's not getting fixed anytime soon, and judging from EAs lack of a fix, even they don't know what causes it.

but why does this problem happens so much more with 0.5? WIth 0.4 i never know a guy who gets disconnected from a working server....

But i think these problems might be gone with the new serverpatch...maybe its because of the lag and stress from the bad python code. So servers can´t hold all playerconnections properply

winipcfg is what you used to use in win95/98/me

substitute for typing this in cmd:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

I never or very rarely had this problem with PR prior to 0.4.

With 0.4 they were sporadic, with 0.5 they are very regular... a real problem

I don’t remember them at all in vBF2.

So for me the problem lies in the latter builds of PR. :(

I tried the uninstall/reinstall thing. I got disconnected 3 times last night in just over an hour.

Seems to have made no difference.

I've get disconnected roughly, once a round.

At first it wasn't a problem, but now that I've coaxed 5 friends to play with me, it's becoming to get real tedious when I have to pack it in for the evening because I'm sick of trying to:

A.) Reconnect to a probably-now-full server.
B.) Switch teams to the team I was on.
C.) Get in the squad I was on / Back where I was.

bump

i guess we need to take this more seriously as we are about to start C5 (Tournament) and im one of the guys here affected by this, piss me off that im doing good and all of the sudden i get disconnect. For all of u out there, i tried turning EAX off, nothing happened, i tried repatching with unistalling PR and BF2 and the whole reinstalling and all the patch processes in order, turned off VOIP, and nothing, also for those smart guys, im in a single core, so the affinity thing wont help in this case, i have googled everything and nothing works, basically everyone is focus on dual core processors but nothing about single processors users, im about to think that gotta be or PR 0.5 or BF2 Patch 1.41 or something cuz i have tried everything.

This is a serious issue.

I play on devfile.com a lot (admitted Al-Basrah chopper whore addict and love to play the insurgent). Now I can say for sure that this is not related to a bad IP route for me.

Case:

I was in a six man squad, in a chopper and all of a sudden I get a nice message "There is a problem with your connection". After it went away (way too many seconds later) everyone in the squad says over VoIP "whoa, what the fluff was that?", "what the f***", "shit!", etc. Everyone on the server gets hit at the same time. Maybe the server is overloaded (not enough bandwidth or CPU cycles). Whatever the case, this affects everyone at the same time.

This is a regular occurrence and happens a good few times each round. Luckily the cobra, pilot and gunner survived the last encounter somehow.

I also play on that server a lot since I got PR. Marksman and insurge in general would be my favs...

But, yesterday, I noticed that the server had bacome a 64 player one, not 54 (or whatever it was). Eager to get into the battle (more special kits), I was met with a problem.

Every time the map loaded correctly. I clicked on 'join game' and as the commander soundbit happened I lost connection. This happened 5 times in a row. And yes, I did change accounts and even reset the computer.

The server worked later that afternoon when it was 20/64, not 63/64 players.

just came from DevFile.com, as usual got kicked by "Your Connection To The server Have Been Lost", and i wasnt the only one, reconnect, 17 players were in, and then after half hour, there it was, another DC, but server was almost full, so it was my side, but still of was getting the message without DC and other in my squad too.
