Also, I personally like ranks. They quickly and easily show you who on a server has more experience and who is more of a noob.

Doesn't rank also matter when a squad leader drops out, and the next highest ranking person will become SL? You don't want someone who is in for the 1st time getting bumped up right?

I'm 99.9% sure it doesn't matter for that. But it might matter for commander applications.
