EDITED: nvm, read post wrong.

Also, you can still buy an 8800 and play current gen games at unbeliavable speeds and resolutions. theres nothing wrong with buying one before DX10 becomes the norm, wich will take the rest of this year and most likely throughout 08`

yes but he is just suggesting wait a bit, more dx10 cards are to come out yet before they even start taking advantage of dx10 so prices will drop and more affordable models will come into our reach.

Stop saying "take advantage of DX10" the cards are BUILT for DX10. There not like a 7 series card that gets an update to let it take some advantage of DX10 (not that thats possible or gonna happen, just saying)

dont get me wrong I would love to have one.
Im on a 6800gt atm
theres alot of teething going on atm though, best to wait for vista/nvidia/dx10 to sort their **** out and ATI delaying their card again.
If youve got the money to throw at it fair enough, but dont make yourself skint thinking you MUST have one of those cards.

Ace, all i was pointing out to some of the less computer sauvy members, is that just because the NEW and SWEET 8800's are out, you dont have to rush to buy it. BF2 is not a DX10 game, infact i cant think of one game that i have that is ATM.

I am fully aware of all the added pipes and such on the 8800's vs. the 79's .... Simply saying over the next few months to a year the price will drop several hundred dollars.

an old P4 Prescott (540) @ 3.6GHz 1MB cache (Arctic Freezer Pro 7 )
Gigabyte 8IPE775-G (F5 bios)
2GB Dual Corsair XMS3200
Sapphire X1950pro 512MB (AGP) @ 621/1578 (CAT 7.2)
Creative X-FI Xtreme Edition
WD Raptor 37GB
Enermax Liberty 620W ELT620AWT
ViewSonic VX924 19" LCD (3ms)

I can run everything high, but, because of weird wall textures in another mod when lighting is set to high, I use medium instead. I also have dynamic lighting set low by choice - running the game 1280 X 1024 with 4 x AA avg 80+FPS, and PR looks amazing.. will probably buy a Dual Pci-e/AGP MB and a core Duo Processor in April when the prices are being slashed I hear  - then probably one of the new 8800's depending on how the AGP card fairs against mew releases like QuakeWars & Frontlines

I think I posted this before here long ago. couple of hardware changes since.

Dual Xeon @3.2ghz Watercooled
2gb Corsair vs
Gainward 7800gs+ (7900 GPU on AGP) 550/1400 24pp 8vp 512mb
Audigy 2 pro
Dell 2407 rev 04
2x Raptors (150gb combined) RAID 0
Corsair Hx620 PSU
Saitek x52

There are 5 machines in my home including the kids ones, From p4 3.2/7800gs
to P4 1.7/5950u nv. One is an AMD 3200 with Asus A8N SLI (only single card being used-house server)

No I'm not rich, I'm a computer guy so most are made from frankenstien:repaired parts, upgrade jobs/recycled machines I come across.

I use the xeon machine to play PR/Games.
Settings
1680x1050 -widescreen
Everything full except dynamic light and shadows (low)
2xAA
8x Anisio (forced through rivatuner along with D3d triple buffering)

Runs well, apart from this new lag entity were all temporarily suffering from.

I bought a AMD X2 4400+ today. The only X2 chip I could find for socket 939 for under $500. :D
