in irak , US soldiers use javalines/sraws against infantery , its very common , its realistic and its efective .'[R-DEV wrote:fuzzhead']I agree there should be systems in place making firing rockets at infantry the 'optimal' solution.
I dont think this is an unacceptable tactic, however I think its way too easy to waste entire squads with a heavy AT kit, and it feels a bit 'cheap', when one squad is working together, doing excellent teamwork, and one random guy with a heavy AT kit just kills them all in seconds...

Really. It's realistic! You think if you were with a bunched up squad in real life that an AT rocket wouldn't hurt you all if it got fired at you?
Realism!
It may not be a realistic tactic to USE.... but then again if people want to waste heavy AT rockets on infantry, I guess that is up to them. I mean the heavy AT only has a pistol. So it's even, a group of guys with all sorts of rifles has many ways of killing an enemy heavy AT. He's big and easy to see, once he fires his rocket he can't fire another for 20 seconds and all he has to defend himself with is a pistol.

its stupid because at's should be saved for tanks, cars, and apc's. people shouldnt be wasting rockets on infantry. theres nothing dumber than having a rocket kill you. i hated it in dc, i hate it in vanilla, and i hate it in pr as well. its just the cheapest thing you can do. the bottom line is that firing a rocket at inf should be an extreme last resort.

heavy AT requires four squadmates to be able to request it (as far as i know...), so a random heavy AT guy doing anything is impossible.
heavy AT with a steady supply of ammo is a devastating weapon against all targets. getting heavy AT into position is not as easy as it used to be, so i have no problem with anti-personel heavy AT tactics.
i want heavy AT in my squad at almost all times. with my stack of ammo at his disposal the entire round, it's weapon's free time...

I went 32:2 on EJOD Desert yesterday playing solely Heavy AT. Once we took gardens from MEC, it's easy pickings taking out anything t hat moves coming out of the main bases across the open desert. Once all the vehicles were taken out I'd start nailing snipers and any infantry that bunched up. Perfectly valid tactic IMO, but I was about 2-300m behind the firefight and not just shooting guys in the face from 10 meters.

"You and you; AT kit - you; rifleman and keep that ammo nice and tight:; you medic; you marksman - me officers - now get to work."
I teamed up with one very enthusiastic player the other day. Every time he saw a tank or APC he went "yummy!" And did I ever keep that ammo pile nice and stacked.

I do it all the time in my squads on armor intensive maps. It's not always that they all listen though. When it works though, boy does it work! Oh yeah sure, I could let them to engage all the infantry moving in between armor spawns while we wait but I hardly ever do. Keep em' n line, get em' n range, that's what we have rifles and optics for...Hx.Clavdivs wrote:"You and you; AT kit - you; rifleman and keep that ammo nice and tight:; you medic; you marksman - me officers - now get to work."

You only need two for a devastating tankbusting team!
Funny part was that a sniper flanked us and started opening fire. AT guys turn their heads, ignore him and the rifleman takes him out. LOL

I was playing Hills of Hamyong and right after I requested and got the LSW, I ran off to rejoin my squad and I got shot from the heavy AT from a very long distance. Direct freaking hit.The Heavy AT is not the RAILGUN from Quake, because i see a lot of Players shooting with RPG or other AT-Standard on PPL?

I almost always spawn light AT, and will request heavy at on maps like EJOD and other vehicle heavy ones (of the maps I have played.)
Using light at or even heavy at on troops is ok by me. The reason you are taking out vehicles with them is to deny a weapons/mobility platform the enemy has. Taking out a squad leader (or entire squad for that matter) accomplishes the same thing.
If I can get a steady stream of ammo I will AT almost anything I can. Yes I attempt to prioritize my targets but infantry can be just as much of a threat as an APC. I don't know how many times I have saved an entire squad because an enemy had an entrenched position or better field of fire and one light or heavy AT round saved the day.
Ever Heavy ATed another heavy ATer? That can save YOUR tanks life. I say that is a good job.
Both the AT kits take teamwork to use effectively. Light AT is a spawn tool but if there is no reload then you are stuck with just a rifle afterwards. No grenades, no ammo, just an unscoped rifle. That makes you pretty weak.
With heavy AT a lack of ammo makes you a pilot effectively. That is horribly dangerous so teamwork is needed.
Besides, there can only be 2 Heavy AT soilders on the field at a time for each side (unless you get an opponents) where there can sometimes be 2 snipers AND 2 designated marksmen. Death is death and helping the team is helping the team, infantry can be the biggest threat so they should be considered valid targets for rockets and missiles.

Its one of the maps, with Helmand included where the bunker busting capabilities of RPG's and AT's light and heavy can be used for the British Faction. LAW80 has been proven again and again in RL more often used against light fortifications than they are on tanks. They are used because certain targets "lofting" GL rounds onto target is difficult.Cerberus wrote:I was playing Hills of Hamyong and right after I requested and got the LSW, I ran off to rejoin my squad and I got shot from the heavy AT from a very long distance. If one soldier dies to a heavy AT round, so be it. the tank will just roll over a couple of squads for that mistake in firing it. With good communications a heavy AT guy will never need to take out enemy infantry. the riflemen or other infantry will take them out. Its because people are not being given clear orders.
Pistols are self defence weapons and -very- effective. Mongol and I make a point of practicing pistol fire at all times. I've been 10:2 on karkand 2 where not a single tank presented itself for destruction as other squads took them out first. Pistols are great, no tracer and not noisy.
And on squad bunching up. If squads dont have a flanking guard before assaulting through a gap or mustering at a rallypoint, then they deserve to be taken out. Keeping a separate distance from one another is essential, and its only because 90% of the time machine guns aren't properly positoned that squads too close to one another that casualties aren't to MGs rather than AT.
Heavy AT is good for people who want to learn a bit of patience and who want to assess the battle from the distance that knife range can cloud. A good SL should keep his main AT and/or machine gunner close at hand.
So in conclusion folk who call it cheap are just complaining because noone has spotted the threat, the SL hasn't given orders to their squad as fireteams, and their designated marksmen or the teams snipers aren't looking for the important targets often enough.
Snipers complaining about heavy AT? I can't believe that! Try moving after firing a couple of shots, you will live longer. There is no way you can't be better concealed than a guy with a huge tube on his shoulder. Try putting a bullet in his head.
And the most useful weapon aside from the Radio for AT as much as any member of a squad. Its the Bino's.
Heavy AT can be a spotter, bunker/mg post killer, or Map-saving member if a key tank can be taken out if your tanks are out of action or elsewhere.
A few other people know some of my advanced tactics for heavy AT, but there are the basics. I'll be saving the rest until C5.
see you on the field...

that doesent matter if sniper moves after every shot. bacuse haevyat is too close to reality(effective range 200m) you really cant shoot that long with in game assault rifles as in real life easily 300m. that is bacause game engine cant handle that. because you can have a perfect hiding spot that even you cant see even 1m away but that heavy at gyu in 150m away sees you perfectly. if i am having k/d's like 20/5 3of them tk's ofcourse another 2 from at. so my oppinion is that snipers worst enemy is at gyu. as a marksman enemy is something elseDarkpowder wrote:Snipers complaining about heavy AT?
