Would like to start experimenting, need help.

Hello everyone, I'm wondering what is a good problem for making models for BF2, My goal is to eventually model a few amoured vehicles, but for now I'd like to start playing around and getting the hang of it.
What programs should I start looking into?.

Gmax is a free 3D modelling program. It's quite simple to use once you get the hang of it. Try downloading it from http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax

I should have known that title would get some smart remarks :razz: . I think my second half would be very angry if she caught me with other women and coke, but anyway haha!.
Thank you very much for the program!, I'm very excited to get into modeling, I want to create a T55 tank, the Enigma style, used by the iraqi's that is my goal.

Ooohh... Nice. Make sure you have a look at some good tutorials. Have a look over at the BFeditor forums: http://bfeditor.org/

Or this one (it's very good for gun modelling, but some of the points can be used for other stuff as well): http://tutorials.moddb.com/16/beretta-9 ... -tutorial/

But remember: modelling takes time! I spent weeks on my MP5SD, and it still has to be skinned and animated and implemented in-game... All of which is stuff I haven't learned how to do yet.

Thanks for the links :-o , I'm messing with Gmax, and made a mace, that was easy, but I see its going to take me quite some time to figure this program out, im quite stumped on how to make anything even the least bit elaborate.
I'm downloading all of those tutorial videos on how to model that beretta mod 9000, I'll see how it helps me. Cheers, oh and by the way you did a damn amazing job on that Silenced MP5!.

Thanks, mate! :D Just one thing about the Beretta tutorial: the first part may not work. It didn't for me.

same for me, i think it has to do with it only being 5 mb's and the the other parts being 100+ mb's o.O

I just purchased Autodesk 3DS Max 8 off a buddy :-P .
Can anyone tell me first of all how I go about putting a picture as a moveable backdrop so that I can model according to it.
Another thing I'm wondering is how I go about highlighting a bunch of vertex's at once without dragging and dropping a box over them.
What I mean is by clicking one, and then adding other ones in with it at random, so that I can change there height ect. to the same setting at the same time.
I am working on a turret right now.

In Gmax (it should be the same in 3DS Max), you press Alt + B to add a picture in the viewport background. Don't think it'll be moveable, but you can always move and rescale your model to fit the background.

Hold Ctrl and click the vertices you want to select to select multiple vertices.

Ok thanks KP :) , Yea I was just asking about the moveable picture part because he was doing it in those tutorial vidoes for making that beretta 9000,
I was not sure how he was going about doing it, it seemed that he was moving it further into the distance, or zooming in and out on it ect.

You can probably set a background in the "perspective" viewport, and move around/zoom. Otherwise, you might have to move/rescale the model itself. You can, however, zoom in and move around in all viewports (which you probably know by now, but anyways...). He should explain it in the video.

I use Gmax, which is basically a watered down version of the same program. Most of the stuff is still the same, though... So there might be a few things that he/you can do that I cannot.
