The idea of the para class is not meant to be able to use the map to choose a destination. Its meant to be the only class other then pilots that can jump out of a plane and survive it! spawn parashooting is a bad idea i think but paretroopers with weapons simiular to a spec op jumping out of a plane sounds very very cool.

yeah i think thats where we were going with the dedicated maps to airborne classes idea, but i think in some maps it would be cool to have say half of the classes airborne and half land, maybe have a marine MAU coming off the beach to link up with an army or specops airborne division. i think there can be more slots for classes than BF2 uses... i think i remember there being more in some FH maps than were available in bf'42

couldnt agree more, alot of marine operations that are expected to go long-term end up with army support and linking ups with airborne units... theres another spot the BF2 designers should have been more specific... marines are shock troops, they arent meant to fight dug in battles, they take ground, then the army comes in to hold it. thats what one of the many problems in iraq is, marines arent occupying forces.

historically they can and have been able to occupy they did it in WWII when the majority of the army was in Europe, both the army and marines try to be able to do everything when needed, the marines specialize in seaborne assualts but the army has done it in the past when the need arose
the one the the marines havent done is parachute, the only marines with airborne wings are Recon, its been that way since mid way thru WWII

true but in my opinion the marines are better suited for amphib assaults simply because thats one of the things the specialize in, the majority of the army i would say is more of a general purpose force, the marines are more of a percision force, i believe all marine units have to be special operations-capable, so i think beach landings would be mostly theirs and the army would be found either linking up with them in the form of airborne or follow on forces, or in maps were its inland and more of a grinding back and forth fight.
Obviously i would never count the army out of amphib landings, cant forget normandy, to name a big one.

Hmm, Not sure about a dedicated tanker class: I dont think it is really needed, and given the limited number of tanks in the game, its a lot of work for somethign that would have very little game effect.
Likewise I'd say para's arnt needed as a class, But it might be very interesting to have one side on certain maps be all paratroops.
