M2 SLAM
Problems:
1. Throwing distance. The slam does not fly further than an arms length before it falls to the ground. When that one extra foot means the difference between a successful attack, or a worthless death, this is not acceptable.
2. How fast the slam moves through the air. A single person manning an APC can change seats from the turret to the driver, and drive away without any delay, usually dodging the slam before it touches the vehicle.
3. Explosions. A tank positioned near a wall, can shoot that wall, or the ground, and kill the spec ops before the slam ever leaves their hands, without doing any damage to the tank.
Solutions:
1. Make the slam get thrown a little bit further.
2. Make the slam move faster through the air. Delay for switching positions, and slower acceleration.
3. a) Damage to the barrel. Much like a tank can have it's treads damaged, there should be some damage to the barrel. The damage could be deviation to the shot, preventing fire, or a newly launched shell exploding inside the barrel, damaging the tank even more.
b) Shell shock for the inhabitants of the tank.
If you are too lazy to read each post in this thread, we're now talking about the problem of switching seats with no delay, and no damage to the tank, or it's barrel, when it strikes a target right next to it.

Good idea.
But to be honest, in RL, you cant throw an explosive like a SLAM and expect it to stick. It has to be armed, and carefully put.
Buuuuut this is BF2, so this is a good idea as this has happend to me with the C4.
Pretty annoying when your trying to put a C4 on a tank, throw it, and the tank just suddenly accelerates and it falls to your feet and then you have to chase it.

Fine, but there are still some problems that need to be fixed. The tank shooting a wall to kill players around itself, and seat switching with no delay.Clypp wrote:You are not supposed to use SLAMs on tanks. They are for blowing up: ammo dumps, bridges, buildings, AA guns, unmanned vehicles, etc.
Also, there is no point in destroying unmanned vehicles. They don't respawn for the enemy when they sit there, but blowing them up makes them respawn for the enemy.

Well if you are switching from the driver seat or the .50 cal to the turret there is a delay until you are able to fire the cannon, I don't remember if there is one for the coaxial gun. And as for destroying unmanned vehicles, this can be very handy for destroying spawn cars. Also if a truck load of enemys come up to your cp then it would probablly be benificial to destroy their truck, to somewhat limit their mobility afterwords and also so they can't get on their mounted weapon.Smash-Crunch wrote:Fine, but there are still some problems that need to be fixed. Are you saying that If i were to stand right next to an apc and throw a slam, that the person in the apc would be able to switch to the drivers seat and dodge it before it made contact? You yourself were saying that the slam doesnt have much range, and must be applied from right next to the vehicle. Maybe what, 1 or 2 feet away. Of course, how do they even know that your there in the first place? Unless your one of those people that just full on charges the apc randomly firing your weapon and bunnyhopping towards your target. In which case (no offense) you dont really deserve to blow it up.Smash-Crunch wrote: 2. How fast the slam moves through the air. Hmm, so if theres an empty tank sitting atop a hill above your main base you dont kill it? I would love to be the lucky guy who stumbles upon that while wandering the hills.

No it's better to leave it imo. Sure asoldier from that team can stumble upon it, but they need a crewman kit to move it!Also you don't throw SLAMs on vehicles, you walk up to them and place them on vehiccles. I really doubt that IRL they use SLAMs as an offensive weapon, that's what rockets are for, if you want to take out vehicles with your SLAM you take out unmanned vehicles as a form of sabatoge. And also, SLAMs in PR are for taking out everything but vehicles for the most part.

The tank shooting a wall to kill players is not a problem. It's called splash damage. Just get more practice..and better cover, etc..Smash-Crunch wrote:Fine, but there are still some problems that need to be fixed. The tank shooting a wall to kill players around itself [...]
Like they said, the SLAM is not meant to blow up moving vehicles, and neither is the C4. They're meant to blow up assets, static things..
If you have an enemy tank, use the Anti-Tank kit.

I'm saying, that a person in the turret, can see you coming at them, switch to the drivers seat, and drive out of the way before the delay of your sprint ending is over, and you can throw a slam at the APC.Fenix16 wrote:Are you saying that If i were to stand right next to an apc and throw a slam, that the person in the apc would be able to switch to the drivers seat and dodge it before it made contact? What does that have to do with the speed at which the slam is thrown at? If anything thats about sprinting speed.Smash-Crunch wrote:I'm saying, that a person in the turret, can see you coming at them, switch to the drivers seat, and drive out of the way before the delay of your sprint ending is over, and you can throw a slam at the APC.

I really like that idea.NavalLord wrote:I'd like to be able to set the timer on the SLAM using the right click. The longer you hold down the button, the longer time the detonator has.
Left click = 15 seconds
Right click = maybe starts at 5 seconds, and adds two seconds for every second you hold it?

Not the speed it is thrown at, but the speed it flies through the air. Many times the slam is successfully thrown, but as it flies through the air, the APC gets out of the way. There is no delay between changing to the drivers seat, and getting up to speed.Fenix16 wrote:What does that have to do with the speed at which the slam is thrown at?
