Now, if the barrel is damaged/slightly altered by just the bullet, imagine what even a small piece of metal would do to the barrel.

First off, tanks main cannons do not shoot "bullets". Secondly, I have never heard of a modern smoothbore taking damage after every round that it fires . According to you, eventually the tanks gun would be so innaccurate that it would have to be taken out of service. Unless of course your trying to be a smart *** with some theory like "well, after every shot the tank makes, atoms get shed from the inside of the barrel" in which case I think this discussion is over.

I'm saying a piece of metal caught in the barrel while the 'shell' is launched out of the barrel would damage the insides of the barrel.

The damage might be insignificant, or it would cause more, and more damage every time a new shell is launched.

That piece of metal could cause the shell to explode while still inside the barrel, which would cause a lot of damage.

And yes, the tank's gun does need to be repaired after a while, just from the damage caused by the shell launching.

The way you said it implied a noticible difference in the accuracy of the tanks cannon after each shot. And for the shrapenel to actually cause any of the effects you listed above, it would have to be a pretty significant hunk of metal. Hell, on that fact, what are the chances that shrapenel even gets inside of the barrel? I suspect close to none.

I'm saying, if a tank shoots a wall right next to it, there will be shrapnel in the barrel, and there will be damage to the inside of the barrel.

I said damaged/slightly altered, I didn't say absolutely destroyed.

Reading comprehension.

OK er.. what was a thread that was answered in the first few posts has spun off into hypothetical discussions from folks who do not have any experience with the real life assets being hypothesized about. And then it degenerated into name calling.

Locked.
