Tanks are 1-shot killed WAY too easily...

After further testing, 1-shot killing an Abrams from the front is:
CONFIRMED

The two images above represent two 1-shot kills to an Abrams. The images look identical but they're not; the two tanks were parked next to one another and in the second image, the first tank carcass disappeared just before the screenshot was taken. (Took me a while to move the second tank into position after the first one was destroyed, and took a few more shots to find the sweet spot again after firing/switching sides/repairing/switching back.)

Here's what I did:

I set up a local server with just me on the map, editing the config file to allow kits with 1 person in a squad and to request them at any distance from the main base (by the way, I could request any kit from an APC in the field except a crewman kit.. is that a bug?).
Placed both tanks on a level surface, facing one another on even ground.
Using the T-90, fired 1 shot at the top left corner of the Abrams turret (exact location indicated by the above thumbnails; where the tank cursor is pointed). BOOM. Tank dead in 1 hit.
Repeated the same with tank #2 with same result.

This might be even more of an issue in v.06 because tank shell deviation will be even less, meaning you can hit that sweet spot more reliably. The weakest point of a tank's armor is the top, but I don't think that striking a tank at such a shallow angle would produce this type of devastation, would it? IF this is working as intended, then tanks are pretty dang useless.

I wouldn't say useless.. If an infantry takes a bullet to the head.. he's killed.. that doesn't make him useless... just vulnerable.. heheh. I would guess that tank battles are over fairly quickly realistically. The one-shot kill does mean that there won't be very long tank battles for supremacy. I would think this is a gameplay/realism decision that the Devs need to reconsider or have already considered.

Two Abrams MBTs in my squad were taken out by a ****ing T62, each having been hit once in the front armor. That is just bull.

If real were the goal, then medics shouldn't be able to revive/heal within 10 seconds and tanks could blast through walls. There is a point where striving too far for realism or for fun achieves neither. The devs have already made it clear that armor was beefed up for the sake of gameplay, not realism, and that 1-shot kills were only intended to be achieved from the back or top, not the front, so I stand by my original statement.

Temporary solution. Engage enemy tanks from further away, that way they'll have trouble specifically targeting your weak spots due to the random deviation.

I sorta like the weak spots on tanks though. Makes you try to target them rather than just blast away at the enemy tank. But yes, on the M1, those weak spots are much larger and easier to hit than the other tanks.

1 shot kill is possible. The armor deflects the projectiles, it is possible to hit it in one spot, and bounce it off another spot etc. so in shot you have 2 hits.

In my test the shot did not bounce. You simply shoot over the tank and if any part of the shell touches the top of the turret as it passes by (which is not hard to do to an abrams because it its large, flat, top surface), then boom, it's dead.

When I think of 1-shot kills from the top, I think of the tank angled down or a heavy AT on a building shooting downward, not a tank shooting straight at it, level, skimming a shot at across the top.

Again, look at the thumbnails I posted; I can't even see the top of the tank yet I can record a 1-shot kill to that area with relative ease. Seems like an exploit.

i want the most realistic tanks in PR

, i hardly ever shoot down a tank with one hit (often with two), maybe thats ok for gameplay , but isnt very realistic .

in RL , one hit from sabot to the front of a tank could disable it (killing the crew or destroying the engine) and the second woudl destroy it .

Go to \Battlefield2\mods\pr\python\game and open "realityconfig.py" in notepad (recommend that you make a copy first, before editing). The elements inside are pretty self explanatory; just make it so that you can get any kits anywhere with only 1 person in the squad with no time between kits. Then start a local server.

Was this on CDU this weekend? If so it was me and Jackoboy doing the dirty work.

We were shooting you in the belly as you broke over the top of sand dunes. We ended up taking out at least 3 M-1's that way, plus a pair of Cobra's, and a few Hummer's.

IRL this would be possible, the belly is very lightly armored and at point blank range and the element of surprise the older tanks could kill an M1. The difference is, that IRL you'd have a platoon moving together and as soon as the old T62 shot the first tank it would be ruthlessly hunted down by the remainder of the platoon. We were finally done in when 3 M1's and a few other vehicles swarmed us.

It was lots of fun while it lasted.

I aim to double hit Abrams in the t62. Hit slightly at an angle and get em.

However This is rare as i always attack from the side in #'s
