Assign a 2nd in command for squads.
Would be nice if the squad leader had the option to assign a 2nd in command, or simply change leadership to one player.
The reason I ask is because often there will be a good squad, with a good leader and a few good members, then the leader leaves and someone who isn't capable of being squad leader is now the squad leader, he leaves and rejoins to give it to some other reluctant guy, and he leaves/rejoins, and it goes right back to the first.
So to save us a little bit of time. Its really just a matter of convenience. Not a life or death bug, but it sure would be nice, and I think everyone would agree with me.

Agreed. Vikingo, it seems like you're always there to sh*t on new ideas recently. That's time consuming, and beside, some people may be dead. So they won't be able to join until they respawn (back at base). Further, if you get an invite and you're already in a squad, you'll have to ask for another invite. This would just make things easier. Granted, it might not be feasible, and DEVs may say it fails the cost/benefit analysis. But it's still a good idea.

Was thinking about this yesterday, when I was the reluctant one how didn't want to be SL but it fell on me when our awesome SL left. I tried..but I just can't think on my feet
. So I second this idea!

if it was based on time you joined (how it is in bf2), it would work better. maybe they dont want the crazy squad hop though. which i dont really blame them for.

True, it does make it more attractive to "rotate" squad leaders.

No seriously, I like it, but it depends on the amount of work that has to be put in. I think it would be great for organizing fire teams etc etc.

Anthony Lloyd, himself a former soldier in the British army and a Northern Ireland and Gulf War veteran:
"The men inside (the APC) might have been UN but they were playing by a completely different set of rules. They were Swedes; in terms of individual intelligence, integrity and single-mindedness I was to find them among the most impressive soldiers I had ever encountered. In Vares their moment had come."

I'm not sure if this can be done. I don't think so
. As far as I know, the squad-thingies are hardcoded.
Plus, I don't think we should implement this at all. I get the idea, but if a good SL leaves and nobody wants to be the new SL, I tell them I'll create a new squad and they should join, if they want me to be SL. And most of the time, they do.
Point is, just ask if anyone wants to be SL. If not, stay SL and do the best you can. Just assign an order and tell the squad to stick together (or if there's a commander, ask him for orders!). Best way to learn how to be SL is by being one

It's not my fault I think this idea is not necessary, I have my own opinions. If you can't respect that, don't take it out on me. I didn't make the game.Wasteland wrote:Agreed. If you thikn that's time consuming, you must be on "speed". It takes about 10 seconds. Tell them through VOIP to join "squad name" squad, as soon as they respawn. Too difficult?
The leaving and joining of squads can be annoying, especially when the same person become squad leader again and again.
Any time you want, bring it on. I'll be waiting for you on the iGi servers.Guerra wrote:Seriously, Vikingo, stop replying to my threads. Whats your in game name so I can team kill you?

If you are reading this dont stop, cause if you do, I'll kick you in the balls.

The problem is, lets say I'm a squad leader with some great players, I have to leave for a bit, I ask who wants squad leader? Everyone says no except one guy, so I transfer leadership to him. Or if I'm SL, and I d/c, I ask who wants SL if I d/c, then I give him #2.
Now, lets say for whatever reason, and it sometimes happens, that the maximum number of squads is full. We can't make a new squad, the guy who wants to be SL can't be, everyone tries leaving and rejoining, but it keeps switching back and forth between reluctant leaders.
This always happens. Always. If you have to make a new squad, then you have to set a new rally point and can't use the old one. Its way too inconvenient.
So please, Vikingo, don't reply to my threads, every single reply you've ever had to my threads was negative. EVERY SINGLE ONE.
Its not hard coded, the PR team could do this with about 20 lines of code or less. Easily. Its just a matter of public support for an idea to improve the flow and convenience of the game. Its not a huge bug, not a huge issue like . But it does interrupt game play and often ruin a good squad. Squad leaders can't stay on forever, sometimes they have to go, sometimes they disconnect or crash, sometimes they get kicked while flying a full blackhawk on Muttrah on Tactical Gamer to make room for a paying member.
It happens. But there are ways to smoothen out game play. Its the little things in a game that make it good, because a lot of little things adds up to be quite a bit.
