[Help] with terrain quality in BF2Editor

I've been trying to create minimaps in the BF2 editor. All is going well, except the terrain texture quality sucks in the editor.

I've been searching bfeditor.org, etc but have come up with nothing much. I understand that the editor needs detail textures in levels\hills_of_hamgyong\editor\detailmaps, but I can only put there what I got with the map.

Another pic - notice the textures that look like they have a 64²px source in the top right:

What I would have liked to do is re-create the map in 3d studio, but that would take me way too much time, unless some1 knows how to do that efficiently.

Also, any setup/commands I can use to maximize the editor renderer quality.
Ideas?

this is cos you do not have the editor detailmap files, so all you see are the colourmaps.

also if you just want the minimap why dont you just open up the minimap in the hud folder?

Thanks for the reply Rhino, I could use the minimap in the hud folder, but I would still like to render it myself (the quality the editor automatically creates is not the best).

So where do I get the detail maps? Are the ones that come in the hills_of_hamgyong\client.zip the right ones, cause if so they are very small.

The editor detail maps will probably be found with Nikovk that is the map developer. But I don't really think you'll get them, so maybe you can just ask the full minimap (that is 2048x2048 and 16mb size), but I still think it'll be hard for you to have access to it.

Hmm... Thanks maybe Nikovk would part with his detail maps. In the meantime I guess that the 2048x2048 16MB minimap dds file will have to do.

But hold on, so which textures do I see in the game if the mod does not come with the map detail textures?

The detail textures for the editor are different from the ones you see in the map I think.

Maybe you can try creating a folder named "Editor" inside the map and copying the detailmaps to it...

I did try copying them - here is my directory structure:

What I still do not get is how there can be different files for the editor - ok so maybe a different format, but the game has detail textures - so I must have the data somewhere, right?

I really can't tell why but I always believed editor detail maps are differents from the ones in game so I guess it's actually like that if what you just did didn't work :(
