The reason you shouldn't often have to peer around corners as an individual, aside from popping head out and then glancing back, is that other members of your squad or supporting squads should be able to spot enemy in that location without having to expose yourself. sure it happens sometimes and you may even get ordered to stick your head above the sandbags to see where that enemy sniper is... O.o

well positioned, elevated or highly penetrating or explosive suppressing fire, usually gives members of your squad or indeed you chance to put your head out and have a look at what you need to see.
I don't particularly care how it's done. A 3rd person view just seemed like an easy enough solution: Leaning, hand held mirror, or a camera on a stick they're all good.
But anyway how exactly are members of the squad going to be able spot the enemy with out them exposing themselves if you can't do it yourself in the first place??
If you have someone preplaced on a roof overlooking the road that's all fine and dandy. But that normally doesn't happen, your squad spawns at the rally point and starts moving towards the flag when they come across an intersection. So with your plan the only way to cross is to get someone to cover that road which would require you to wait for someone in the squad to find a roof and climb it just to tell you if the coast is clear or not and then wait for him to climb back down and rejoin the squad? That's a pain in the ***; a look around corners option would be so much more efficient.
ironcomatose wrote:I think they should leave it the way it is because if they put anything in it that would allow people to look around corners without showing themselves you would have "corner campers". If any of you have played Socom for the PS2 then you know what im talking about but let me explain for the others. People will just wait around the corner watching you get closer and then they pop out to shoot and you had no idea they are there and they get a cheap kill. It is really annoying.
How is this different then someone hiding behind a box or in a window till you get close then bam easy kill?
At least the ability to look around things would help cut down on being ambushed.

It's up to the mapper to make maps with no corners!

Or to make more like helmand, where any annoying corners can simply be blown up. ;)

In all honesty I would rather like to see something out of the new rainbow 6 but in first person. Unforutantly, that would take a lot of work. I can't annimate so i'm just running my mouth.

That'd be insanely cool eh? Wonder what Rhino would say about this

I know most EA/DICE bashing was satisfied with the outpouring of rage over 2142, but the source of this problem is that EA/DICE were/are lazy and didn't give a way to lean out and check corners. That has always pissed me off. And, we all know what is their idea of "quality".

If this could be done it would add a lot to the game.

The best method I can think of is to assign a key that you hold down, and while pressing it you use strafe left/right to lean. Would that be possible?

Maybe it could be commands added to the commo rose? Or, maybe you could create a new weapon slot, that, when switched to it, would enable leaning. With or without a weapon in hand.

Binoculars in BF2 make me think this would be possible. It has an animation, and it changes the view. Even if it made the player models look a little funny while leaning, or even sort of glitchy, I would still say go for it. I think a minor visual bug with it would be minor compared to the use it would serve.

BF2 doesn't allow ammo sharing between 2 weapons so this couldn't work

the best you could hope for would be a "lean" firemode ;)

It really doesn't sound worth the effort.

I still think a Mirror would be cool to check corners areas for snipers etc.

Rhino is a mapper, not a coder or animator IIRC.

well in DCON you can have a spotter put up a camera in the air near a enemy target and then the howitzer can blast the target to atoms, wouldn't it be possible to add a camera to a stick/similar, because we now that it is possible to put up cameras in the air.

i rekon u shouldnt even bother, i check corners all the time, and iv never just gotten mowed down, only ppl who run out 2 meters from the wall and back get killed, theres still the enemies reaction time and urs to make up for the fall back, using cameras is used only on infiltrating target buildings, not in open war, 3rd person totally rips game quality apart and if there was sum look around the corner thing it should b limited! this just brings the difficulty of defending flags to a much higher level, taking away blatent strategies

It would be nice to be able to lean out and look behind corners. In the Swedish army we look around corners all the time while practicing FIBUA. Especially when where inside buildings going room to room. Before the frag goes in the hole you have a little peek to make sure no civilians are having tea in the room your about to rape. Well, since there are no civilians in Bf2 the problem seems a bit small. But still, it would be nice though.

Speaking of FIBUA; would´nt it be cool to play on a map where every house is accessalbe? A giant cityblock with the flags being a room or a building. A bit off topic, I know.

i wouldnt mind a small map(maybe like 8 blocks of houses?), like a kind of house to house raid style attack even tho it be hard to make maybe for the far future, having to break down barracaded fences and doors, lol would b gay tho if it was multi story so theres no cover tho.. could even make it so the insurgents within the houses need to protect their vip or somthing lol
