Helicopter flight control request
Map: Kashan Desert
vehicle: Helicopters
- Me and other people were talking about the new flight changes done with the helicopter's flight control in BETA, its become very complicated, its like it came out of ArmA, very hard to turn and slow. With all the new AA methods, portable stingers helicopter pilots don't have it any easier. We are requesting to bring back or if not, improve the flight control.

I disagree, I always fly helicopters in PR, unless its another bug the flight control got very much stubborn.'[R-DEV wrote:dbzao']The helicopters are the same as in 0.5. No changes were applied to them in 0.6.
The difference is the new view distance in maps like Kashan Desert that gives you the impression of going slow, but you are actually going the same top speed as in 0.5.
Even if it hasn't changed, you should fly the mi-28 for yourself, I use a joystick.

I thought that in a completley different way.Simio1337 wrote:I disagree, I always fly helicopters in PR, unless its another bug the flight control got very much stubborn.

For me it's much easier to fly than in 05.
The only disadvantages are the entry points. People can't get in the chopper when you hovering 80cm over the ground.

He must be trying to use only rudder to turn and minimal roll. I believe the dev's hit the nail on the head with these helicopter controls.
Helicopters are more stand off than anything in real-life anyways except for over Iraq because they are needed close in to provide C[LOSE]AS. Otherwise helicopters stand off near the ground using terrain for cover unlike in vBF2 where you have to overrun the target everytime you want to kill something.

Did you 'tweak' anything to do with landings? It's just that I find the landings (or when a chopper is on the ground in general) much more forgiving. For example, I'd tipped a Cobra on it's side on the slope of a hill, and initially bailed since I thought it was going to blow). It however stayed intact and I somehow managed to righten it up and take off again with minor damage.'[R-DEV wrote:dbzao']Well, since I was the one that did all the helicopter handling changes, having spent so many hours testing and tweaking them, I can most certainly tell you they didn't change.![]()

Helicopters are easy to fly and maneuver, it takes a skill pilot to know where to land, to know where to fly, to know how to evade fixed winged aircraft, yet stay away from AAA and those pesky tanks that pop out of no where.
and lol deadmonkie.. Your sig is my life, seems like everytime I'm playing a game my cat is jumping on my keyboard or jumping on my lap.. eh I hate cats.. I love my dog she just sits down by my feet.

I accidentally bailed out of a loaded littlebird 200m above the ground. I parachuted down while I watched the passengers helplessly scream obscenities at me as the chopper fell. When it hit the ground, it struck the ground with one of the skids and took almost no damage. However, I just think this was a lucky freak incident, because the odds of landing on a skid in an out-of-control chopper are slim to none.workingrobbie wrote:Did you 'tweak' anything to do with landings? I have heard it said that flying a helicopter is alike trying to balance a ball on top of another ball. Having some stick and rudder time of my own, I concur! One thing that helps is that when you fly rotary wing, you have to anticipate what you want to do because of the time required for translation. Practice practice practice.

Yeah it's much better to get into using a joystick, it's hard at first getting used to the sensitivity but it's alot more accurate (I'm still working on it).
Impaler's right about the delay, you always have to start adjusting you controls before you'll start maneuvering so you always have to be one step ahead of where you want to be going.
