Right click to apply field dressing to self

Post by Apheirox »

Rather than having the buggy field dressings fall through solid objects or tumble down hills.

Actually .. quite literally .. the way the engine works that would mean everybody was a Medic and we don't want to do that as it creates a bunch of other undesirable side effects.

Yeah, I guess the engine won't allow you to only heal yourself? So if you just hold it, it would have to act as a medikit?

Eggman, are you saying that the engine prevents a handheld object from being a limited resource or that because it would be handheld people can heal each other?

If its the later it wouldn't be much different from someone tossing a field dressing at a buddy in desperate need.

I'm assuming it would be that this item could be reloaded? Or is it because it would regenerate like a medics pack? Just curious about the limitation with the engine

My guess is the engine does not enable items/weapons to heal the owner. A trick that can be done to heal the owner is putting a very small heal radius on the weapon, but then somebody who gets in your face would get healed too.

That's just my uneducated guess.

You can't heal / repair / give ammo with a held object unless you have the healing / repairing / ammo ability given to the soldier class. This has several hard coded side effects.

There is no way to attach a fixed amount of healing to a held object, it comes from the player ability. We could make this ability have a huge drain rate and long replenish time for Non Medic classes, but this would mean that you would have a persistent healing capability and there would be no "supply" dependency on the bandages.

Additionally when you called for a Medic every single soldier on your team would show up as a medic, because effectively everyone would have the healing ability and, as a result, be defined as a Medic by the game engine.

Sometimes the field dressings DO heal you but the HUD elements do not display (in some testing I have done this appears to be happening more often than them disappearing without healing). We may consider adding back in the health bar element ONLY when you are being healed to address usability issues around the HUD glitch where it doesn't appear to be healing (but that might be glitched as well).

Well, the med box doesnt heal the owner anymore and the guy, who has to get healed, has to be very close to it...results as a group sex with a box

If we could get this to work it would be great, if not I think a temporary health bar as eggman said would be useful to see if you actually got healed.

Anyway Outlawz is right about having to get way too damn close to the medic to get healed. Player models always end up clipping.

 I miss the ability of the medic to heal himself. If your a badass enough medic you should be able to do it.

er.. the med kit DOES heal the owner, just in a manner that completely incapacitates them from the current fight, which is perfect.

Not sure you guys are getting it....... the MedKit doesn't actually do ANY healing. The MedKit allows the HEALING ABILITY of the Medic Class to function.

Spend a few weekends trying to make it work and then get back to me hehe... but I am not going to explain it any further.

Thanks for the explanation Eggman. I'm starting to understand the depth behind fixing apparently "simple" fixes, quite a trickle down effect.
