Good idea - since when targetting you don't just need direction, but also range - sometimes impossible over VOIP.
I can just see the impossible voice scenario now "Target at 3.12 O'clock...no..fraction more to the right, you're at 3.08 o'clock..that's right...now range 115 meters...no..little further...little further now...that's it. FIRE!" and all this over the rumble of the tank so you can't hear anythinig anyway.

Surely the best solution to this is having your own independant armour squad with the tank commander as your SL. He puts attack markers down, and the gunner engages whilst knowing the range and position. Other tanks in your squad can also engage as appropriate. I do this all the time whilst tanking, very effective and its not exactly an ancient chinese secret now is it?
I cant see the need to 'paint' targets other than for airstrikes tbh.

Then use the closest thing to it with the 'attack here' SL command.
Cant see the point in the devs focusing on something which is already implemented to an extent.

Until the ubiquitious "one-man-tank" tendency is eliminated and made impossible, any tweaks are surely very low on priority list.
Its like playing PR with one hand without VOIP, so make the effort and use it.
And dont forget 3 o'clock is "relative to the direction of assault/travel, so relative to gunners primary front view" it is not compass directions.. north is not necessarily 12 o'clock.
Spotting for tanks is like spotting for snipers.

and if the SL dies with his tank? im completatly sure that if a tank squad lost his leader , the remains tank still can point at targets .'[R-MOD wrote:DukeMeister']Surely the best solution to this is having your own independant armour squad with the tank commander as your SL. wrong, the driver is also the commander in PR latest version.El_Vikingo wrote:Anyways, it's the gunner that should be directing the tank not the driver.
I prefer you in the A-10 really with one of the drivers of the tanks as SL in 0.6'[R-MOD wrote:DukeMeister']Surely the best solution to this is having your own independant armour squad with the tank commander as your SL.
you feel a great deal of safety on the ground in Kashan with Duke in close air support.

Obviously you've never driven a tank with someone who knows what they're doing. And don't call me wrong.Darkpowder wrote:wrong, the driver is also the commander in PR latest version.

As platoon leader I have over 50% of my time dedicated to comunicating with command and directing the other platoon TC's, do you know how much radio chatter goes on when there are 3 gunners and 3 TC's trying to communicate ON THE SAME CHANNEL?Darkpowder wrote:Until the ubiquitious "one-man-tank" tendency is eliminated and made impossible, any tweaks are surely very low on priority list.

To add to that I also need tell everyone to shut up when I recive orders from command which renders them inneffective to communicate with eachother, that could potentially cost me to lose a tank in my platoon.

I know this isn't 100% on original topic. But at full zoom with the periscope for Tank Commander, when your viewing, it flies around at the slightest movement. Is there any way to fix that next to slowing down your mouse?
Oh and on topic, It could work just as well to have a degree marker alongside your NSEW direction. Just tell the turret to face 270Deg and target is there.
