Put rules into the structure of the game and they will obey them and like it.
Sorry, my sense of humour can be a bit dry, which doesn't always come across well on the internet. I was joking, most players don't read through the manual nor would it change their playing style if they did.
Perhaps we could get rubber bullets or bean-bag guns? Or flamming rubber bullets and flaming bean-bags.

The civilian class is a nice idea of roleplay element but it doesnt work in a ego shooter. You can practice this on WoW or on Ultima Online.. where somebody worked with his charakter and tryed to grew it up .. but here ?!
1.) For Example Fallujah .. the Us Armed Forces ordered all civilians to leave the city in 7 days. After these 7 days they attacked and everyone who was still there, was count as insurgent.
2.) Civilians comes in a car and drives through my position in real .. and close to rules of engagement you can open fire, if he do not watch the slightest space to your checkpoint. So he got count as Insurgent.
3.) You take fire .. from Insurgent with a couple civilians in the Area.. you wait before you start fire back. A normal reaction of civilians is, run ... run for your life and dont turn back till you reached the next street.
If someone is not running he is count as insurgent.
4.) What you can do ? Get a rover and do some raid`s.. but the civilian has the same Stamina like a full trained Special Forces Soldiers .. they arent afraid by pistol fire in their legs .. or something like that.
3-4 Limited Kits where an good idea .. but in the moment you have so many of them that you have 15 Civis and 15 Insurgent .. 1 Civi to protect 1 Insurgent.
Sorry the civilians are a nice idea but uncovertible in this game.
Everyday you have some BF 2 Vanilla noobs in it .. try to shoot everything, includes Civilians and Teammates. So you fight hard and good with your squad .. doing everything pretty well (unfeasible in the moment) and even though you are loosin because some idiots in apaches or APC´s are killin everything on the move.
As i said .. n1 idea for a role play game but not for Bf2.

The main problem with v0.6 modes right now is players who aren't reading the manual. The next problem is people needing to be educated in how to cross distances as infantry using natural contours to hide movement, distraction methods providing misdirection.
Sound, shape, shine, shadow, silhouette, the core of battelfield movement maybe needs to be given in master classes to those needing them and then we'll see if the gameplaying gets more interesting

btw I just want to clear it up.... dont see civilians being removed from PR, at least not while I am around
Like most things we've introduced in PR it takes about 3 major release cycles to get them to where we want them to be, each release cycle after the first progressively polishing the ideas from the first one.

Its all about the player who is playing as civilian. I've seen meny times when enemy squad was using civilian kit very effectly. Almost everytime when I saw with my squad civilian running somewhere close or looking at us, the Insurgents started attack at us from somewhere.
It is sometimes very annoying when civilian come in front of your face to throw some rocks. Usually I just shoot him if Im not able to knife him.

I really like the idea that you can kill civilians if they are within a certain radius of an insurgent, I have been seeing more and more cases where two civilians will stand in front of an insurgent in the way so they shield most of him. This would be okay if not for the heavy penalties you take for killing them.

Jep I like that idea too. But is it realisable in BF2 ?Lampshade111 wrote:I really like the idea that you can kill civilians if they are within a certain radius of an insurgent, I have been seeing more and more cases where two civilians will stand in front of an insurgent in the way so they shield most of him. Ha, reminds me of the time I used the machine gun at the VCP on Basrah and I saw a bunch of civilians and I think some insurgents at the very end of the flag... So, I'm thinking, "Oh ****, which to shoot, I don't want a longer spawn time". I didn't even bother firing off the machine gun, I just left it. I mean, I knew the differences of civilians and insurgents' clothing, it is time that's a factor on picking targets that are hostile.Lampshade111 wrote:I really like the idea that you can kill civilians if they are within a certain radius of an insurgent, I have been seeing more and more cases where two civilians will stand in front of an insurgent in the way so they shield most of him. I've had some more thoughts on this...Darkpowder wrote: More Civvie classes:-
Reporter... - Killing a civilian or this one within a certain proximity of him gives more than usual ticket loss. This is the promise for Popa of a combat cameraman class. Could be given soflam instead of binos.
Criminal - Comes with a knife, for more of a surprise. - worth twice the intel value when captured. Killing him is less of a points penalty.
Paramedic - Comes with x2 no. of Medical Dressings also is more costly to the allies if they kill him rather than knife him.
How about an insurgent class with..
Knife, Body Armour, Grenade, Molotov, Smoke. no Main sidearm or rifle.
For those that enjoy the sneaking and knife-pack hunting.

wow, just had a thought, what about a combat photographer follow the brits? you would have no weapon, just a camera and take cool pics that would be saved like screenshots.
The brits would have an added incentive to keep the photog alive, and the photog could somehow get captured by insurgents (more points for them capturing the photog alive) and bonus points for keeping him hidden as long as possible (could reverse intel on ammo caches?)--the brits would then be forced to recon and "save" the photog?
just a thought---wow, the possibilities!
