CAS: close air support
is there by any chance a way for squad leaders to call in for close air support?

lol if you can't keep up just stop reading the posts then and let someone else deal with it
seriously though, on our GTA server many of the admins deal with all suggestions and compile them into a doc (and order them/priortize etc) for the scripter so he knows what's most needed.
Suggestions like this one are normally worked by the OP the more they play with good squads anyway. I think it's because people aren't used to playing with decent active commanders (if there's one at all) or are that used to using the VoiP.
Comms is the answer to everything

If you want CAS you would have to tell your SL then he will contact your commander via VOIP and then the commander will contact a squad with some air craft and order them to bomb an area that you and your SL have decided on. I know it sounds like a lot but this would take like 20 seconds if the plane is already in air and trust me it can work as long as the pilot isn't a *** hole.PsychoSquirrel_NZ wrote:i would like soldiers to carry a colored smoke grenade, not one that fills an entire area, but like the marking kind that appears in orange when the commander tells you to attack an area. but a bit bigger so you can see it from a heli/plane.

yeah I hear you...in the past it seemed that if while on Basrah for example that I would "boat" the target I want bombed. It seemed that the pilots generally knew that kind of sign, so spot a target as a boat and a pilot might get the idea. Its a good idea while you wait for SL to pass on the message.

All it takes is the SL to be able to see the target and have VOIP and he can Call Grid and anything else that could Help. Example:
SL: "Enamy Tank, Grid D4, Next to the Water Tower"
Pilot: "En-Route, Stay Clear"
*Tornado Gr4 Rapes Tank with Air-to-Ground Missile* (in the Future for now think Su-25 uses its Missile)
SL: "Enamy Tank, Grid D4, Next to the Water Tower"
Pilot: "En-Route, Stay Clear"
*Tornado Gr4 Rapes Tank with Air-to-Ground Missile* (in the Future for now think Su-25 uses its Missile)
"Lose Sight, Lose the Fight"

There, fixed it for you.ironcomatose wrote:If you want CAS you would have to tell your SL then he will contact your commander via VOIP and then the commander, provided he himself is competent enough to relay the message instead of spamming bunkers all over the map, will contact a squad with some air craft and order them to bomb an area that you and your SL have decided on, and then most likely get no response from the squad whatsoever. The commander will then actually have to watch the aircraft to see what he does, so he can see if his order was actually accepted. I know it sounds like a lot but this would take like 20 seconds if the plane is already in air and trust me it can work as long as the stars are aligned properly and the temperature in hell is low enough.

Hey, guys in planes and helos like nothing better than having a fat juicy target to impale on their love missile*.
Use in-game chat as suggested above. *** CAS REQUEST *** Tank E4, North East Corner, moving west.
Now, whether or not the planes respond to that is another matter.
Just a thought though, doesn't Ventrilo allow macros to switch channel?
Let's say that we had a standard set of channels for each side, over and above in-game VOIP.
Example:
SL-SL (squad leader comms, for when there is no commander)
CAS (Aircraft should monitor this channel)
TANK1
TANK2
TANK3
..and so on.
If we standardised those then you could set up keybinds for the different channels regardless of which server you are on.
______________
* OK So that's probably an inappropriate analogy.

BTW, do planes really carry air-to-ground missiles? and are these guided?
Maverick for one, Basically its a 5'5" long missle in a flight suite, brown hair, big police sunglasses, sings, rides motorcycle, a friend to geese and enemy to tanks.
