Anyway.... I've never had problems with PR before, even when everyone else was having stuttering on Al Basrah, I was running pretty smoothly with inferior hardware.
Now I'm having an immediate crash to desktop, with no error messages or system events, as soon as any map finishes loading and the "Join" button appears.... yet BF2 vanilla runs like butter with up to 32x AF, 16x AA, trilinear mipmaps, and all the other goodies. (BTW, everything is @ 1024x768x32 @ 76Hz)
This is on a 100% brand new system, just built, burnt-in, and thoroughly tested this week. Specs are:
Foxconn C51XEM2AA-8EKRS2H MoBo
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ @ 2.6GHz per core / 1GHz FSB
2GB OCZ Platinum rev. 2 @ 800MHz dual channel
BFG GeForce 8600 GT 256MB, PCI-E x16 via NForce 590
600 watt PSU, SLI spec, dual +12v
Every benchmark is 110% rock solid, temps are great, all memory checks 100% good with Memtest86+ via Knoppix boot CD. There are zero hardware issues. Trust me
As for software and drivers, this is a fresh install of Windows XP Pro (32-bit), followed by the latest stable versions of all drivers, and finally BF2 + patch + PR. There is no antivirus, firewall or other interference; and I've already tried cleaning and reinstalling all drivers and BF2/PR. Also, I've had no issues with any other software or drivers, just PR.
I've tried using the pre-built NVidia profile for BF2, using no profile, using all settings at "Application controlled" as well as forcing all to minimum, forcing all to max, and everything in between. Also tried all known BF2 command line switches and the XP "heapsize" argument, both min and max. I don't see how it's the settings.
A LOT of other people seem to have this end-of-loading CTD. What's the cause, and what can be done about it? Thanks!
- Jason
Edit: Also getting a system error "ding" even if I close the program normally. Is that "normal" with the new version of PR?
