Do you need 3D map? (with poll)
3D map: Markers (move,attack,defend...) and Threats (friendly mines and explosives)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you need it to play?
I always switch it off in the first second when I join some server as I it is obstructing parts of my view. I can navigate without it with mini map and VOIP (if is SL communicative enough to say what we are going to do and where). I also use big map often to be informed where are friendlies and what is the global situation on the battlefield.
From more realistic point of view is such personal HUD thing of far future. Personal PDA map with direct information feed from satellite (big map) is not that advanced.
I would like to know if you use it and why and If you would or would not care if it is removed (if possible)
-------------
I have read similar post/poll few months ago but I cant find it anymore

There's no point in this thread since you can turn it off if you want with one button. If you don't like it, don't have it on, If you need it turn it on. It has saved lives where the driver has seen the mines before driving over them.

If you are reading this dont stop, cause if you do, I'll kick you in the balls.

It depends.
BF2 Crosshairs also can save your life in CQB and they were removed because they were not realistic.
You do not have such visual explosive warnings in RL so why should you have it here?
I think it will be possible in near future to have some friendly mine warning based on RFID for vehicles, but I still think the best way would be to communicate.
Engineer (who should use mines after he was order by SL and COm not by himself anywhere and anytime) should say through chat or through chain of command (SL-Command-Tank Squads) that he has mined entrance to compound X or street Y.
Actually I do not care much for friendly mines vs vehicles issue but to see warnings for C4 a SLAMS is weird.

You are right, Markers are not only useful but also very realistic for air units.Longbow* wrote:They are must have for air units , but when I'm on the ground I keep them off
I would realy like to have them only where are they needed and reflecting RL.

Looking at the yellow line on minimap is enough for me.Skullening.Chris wrote:I check it real fast to make sure I'm heading toward SL's order.
Otherwise, yeah, too much clutter with all the 1000's of little colorful symbols all over the place.

I need those markes just to point out where I want to do whatever.... (as sl)
Since I can't call my squad and point locations on the map with my finger I need those markers.
It's good that it'S possible to turn 'em off 'cause there f*ckin annoying while fighting - but when holding position they're ok.

And who said something about minimap removal??!11Red Halibut wrote:SO, just as a question, if you removed the 3d map AND the mini-map how would you tell where the objectives are?
This thread has nothing to do with such blasphemy. I am asking only on some opinions on 3D map and nothing else.
@Longbow*: I never use Markers as a rangefinder. I have never need them even as a SL. Maybe there is some way to use them I do not know about.
@-=TB=- CmdUnknown: Sure I need them too ... on the map and not on the infantry HUD.
I know I can turn them off (and be sometime insulted by others when I die thanks to their SLAM or C4 which happened to me already) but as their are not realistic in present warfare, I wanted to know if community really need them in game.
I should have said that I play only as a infantry so I was not considering their usefulness for air units

Fair point. It's just that with calls to remove the mini-map as well, I wonder which you would consider the lesser evil. I think I can guess!
One thing I like about the mine/C4 warning is that as someone can't shout out to you "OI GET AWAY FROM THAT WALL THERE'S C4 IN THAT BUSH!" then the marker is a reasonable alternative.
