This is actually practice for an eventual mod of my own based on TS.

Now how about feedback on the unit weapons and equipment setups?

the People's militia would be realistic and cool but I think they should fix up the PLA faction before they make the Militia.

But anyways, here is a pdf on the subject, its kind of long but it has some accurate history and info on the militia, you might want to skip down to the section "Chinese Militia Today" if you don't like reading history.

http://www.sinodefence.com/research/militia/default.asp

The militia in China as of right now is similar to the US National guard/ reserves, in the time of war, the militia probably wouldn't be doing some heavy offensive fighting, they would serve more of an auxiliary role. There isn't much information on the militia but from what I've heard, the role of the militia is to defend cities and maintain order. if an enemy invades and take control of a city/village, their role would be to provide reconaissance, sabotage, sniping and maybe even full assault. The training of these militia men vary, some might only have had two month of basic trainning while others are ex-PLA with extensive/advanced trainning. The weaponry of the militia aren't too shabby, they actually have missile launchers, tanks, artillery and even guided missiles.

I fully support your idea, Expendable Grunt... in fact, I was thinking of a quite similar faction about a month ago but never got around to putting it in the form of a suggestion thread.

I was unawares that China had such a large and well equiped auxilary force! My original concept was literally a small PLA officer corps walking into a city, picking 1000 or so men, teaching them how to fire and reload an AK/few other weapons, and sticking them at an simi important objective (bridge, etc) under the command of a junior officer.

I browsed through that article -- good history, but it seemed to lack equipment info.

I'm guessing now that these maps in question would have the "activated" militia on guard at a city or important objective. Since you might have easier access to info than I would, could you look into what sort of rifles they really use? Bob and I figured it would be the Type 56. What sort of tanks are we talking about, too? Type 69's? I heard you all still have loads of those. Also, what do their uniforms look like? Originally I was going to go for civilian clothing, but that seems to be the wrong move right now.

Well, Type-56, Type-68 or Type-81 I would imagine, with Type-56 most numerous as Type-68 wasn't that popular and Type-81 is still in service with the actual PLA.
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

Firearms:
QBZ56
QBZ81
QBZ56/81 + QLG91 (grenadier) http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=6338021
1985SMG (The one used by Chinese AT in vBF2) or JS 9MM or CF05
Type 63 (<--full auto sks basically)
NDM86, aka dragnov
RPK/ QBB81 SAW http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=6338024,
here is a video: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... &plindex=1
(notice the body armor worn by the soldier? :) )
Vehicals:

Nanjing technical
ZTZ59 or 62 mostly (you are correct :) )
Type 63 apc
North Benz supply truck

and that's all I could think of at the moment..

Their uniforms will be the same ones used by the PLA in PR since they get the used/ surplus stuff, otherwise I think they probably would have some dark olive colored cloth if they don't get the army uniforms.

Damn, these guys are packing way more than I thought they might.

Hm...I wonder if I could salvage my original idea at all?

I thought the RPK never made it to China. I was under the impression that they got the RPD in 1956 (along with the AK-47 and SKS) but due to the Sino-Soviet split never recevied the RPK and kept on using the RPD until the introduction of the Type-81 series.

Well with a lack of serious feedback, I'm not sure I want to put time into this after all.

Dude this is an awesome Idea! I would love to see this implemented for the North Koreans or another Militia like faction.

Actually I've come up with a better idea:
