Suppressive Fire Mark

Post by milobr »

Just a thought. What do you guys think about having a Mark in the map displaying a supressive fire icon. This way, if we see any enemies in cover, we could mark them by aiming the position and then pressing Q -> Suppress here and people around you from your team would be able to see where do you want them to suppress.
I don't know if this idea is viable or even necessary. For one instance, you can VoIP your squad to suppress the enemy, but it may be handy if you want other people beyond your squad to help in the process.

Wanna hear (read?) what you think.

Except that right now, if you see an enemy, he is probably going to be dead very shortly. I don't know about you but i rarely actually see enemies taking cover behind objects. They usually don't make it to that point.

Also VOIP should be used for this. The Q commo rose is obsolete (except for spot) with VOIP.

I may be wrong but I don't think people other than your squad see the squads flares?

Could be wrong.

But if I am I don't think it would be necessary because:
1. The squad leader could just use an attack marker and communicate it over VOIP 2. If someone was nearby they'd surely notice a whole squad providing fire on a certain point.
3. It would require a lot of work - like new Voice recordings - for what is essentially very little added gameplay.

Just my two cents, I do think it's a clever idea though :-)

Unfortunately I can barely see enemies taking cover too. In Long Range engagements this should not work but I've found myself in many situations while in CQB when I see a enemy running from one side to another then want someone to suppress it's position and then I can't issue a proper command. If I spot him people will not suppress but then try to flank and kill him.
Then If a try to rush his position I just do it to find myself being killed shortly. This is perhaps too tactical for this game?

Also, there's this issue about the marks only being displayed to your squad. Didn't think about it but isnt it possible to add marks that are global to your team just like the spot?

But as said too much work for little addition. I won't persist on this.

I just thought i would say that i use cover all the time and i see people use cover all the time. Just not 30 minutes ago i was in hills of haymong or w/e and everyone was covering in the hills and behind trees and buildings. Popping their heads in and out to take shots and everything.

I think the move, destroy and attack marker showing up for the whole team is probably hardcoded (sorry, I do hate having to use the "H" word). I believe that your squad is the only one that sees your enemy spotted except for if a SL spots an enemy. SL spots are shown to the whole team I think.

It would be nice to have more map marker options available for SL to designate what is needed at a certain location, waypoints would be a nice addition to but I know that it can't happen.

Nobody ever gives enough suppressive fire. Ever.
I find like 1 squad who will use it per month and they only use it in 1 fire fight.
Suppressive fire, when needed, blinds and scares the enemy. Just the bounces of the bullets around them blinds them. If it hits walls and doors it will make them seemed injured as well as being blind.

Please, please use more of it. Just ask your team, no....tell your team to suppress.

Once you have him/them suppressed have a squad of 2 flank to a side. Lobbing nades and everything.
Then the team moves in when the enemy is busy with your 2 guys.

Yes there are opportunities and people will do it. If they are ordered to.

the thing is...suppressive fire simply doesn't work in PR.

you can get a SAW or PKM or w/e and go up on a hill and full auto a squad behind a building. all they are gonna do is pop up and insta headshot you with their uber easy aim sniper assault rifles.

That's bollocks, I see plenty of people, including myself, using it loads. The move tool makes squad movement so much easier then telling people to go up a hill to create a rally cos that could be anywhere, and since I don't know much military jargon there's no easy way of saying "move to that rock, up on the hill, not the one on the left but the one on the right but not on our side the side with the tree next to the blown up car" etc.

Move markers makes stuff like that easier and keeps your squad together, especially when your assaulting and you use it in a Brothers in Arms kinda style.

That's very wrong what you said, people never snipe me when I'm laying down bursts of fire so I don't overheat with my M249 SAW!Same thing happens when I play airsoft, they'll be in a bunker or something, and I unload my M249 on them, they crouch and don't get up,and my team can move up and rush them!

i have to go with pasfreak on this one! there is no such thing as effective suppresive fire in PR.

there are multiple explanations to why but i feel as if the multiple spawn points in .6 is the main one.

Well I don't care what half you guys say. Effective suppressive fire is completely possible and when done correctly, deadly.

Often, I'll spot 2 or 3 guys taking shots from behind a sandbag or another object. I'll order the squad to suppress the position then another 1 or 2 to go up and rush them.

Believe me, if you are under effective suppressive fire, you'll bloody well know it. You're too scared to look up when there's M16 and M249 rounds tearing apart the wall behind you and thwacking off your sandbag.Usually you'll be too busy trying to crawl for cover you won't even notice the guy running directly to your position to nade you or unload on you.

I'd only agree on you that there's no thing as suppressive fire if your squad is an incoherent bunch of lonewolfs/1337$n1p3rzZ/t3h n00bs who don't follow orders.

the grenade launcher usually makes enemy squads keep their heads down until they can spot you, so get a SAW gunner and a grenaider together to supress and there you go, supressive firepower in PR.

scared of what ? a 30 seconds spawn then straight back into the action , id rather pop up and kill the guy in 2 shots.

Thats right. When you have atleast one guy with a support gun and 3-4 other ppl shooting at your bunker, you'll get the hell down and stay there. You can get up and open fire on them coz when bullets are flying close to your head you'll vision will suffer, and by the time you manage to aim at a guy you'll fly backwards while shouting "AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH"
Never argue with an idiot, he will just drag you down to his level and beat you by experience ;)

Really thinking about this, doesn't the attack marker do this job,and if they're in a biulding,or you wanna be funny, just put a destroy marker on them.

Well Gazz, I wouldn't like to meet you on the battlefield, you seem to have superhuman powers.

Being able to stand up, with blurred vision due to the bullets landing next to you, avoid a M249 + 5 M16's firing on your position and pop each in the head. Seriously, I'm happy for you.

I have nearly 100% success using this tactic when I'm squad-leading with experienced players.

So if suppressive fire wasn't effective, what would you people claiming it doesn't exist do? Charge it head on, WWI style? Please, tell me.
