Remove grass in some areas/maps
In a lot of areas grass isn't all nice and lush/thick like it is in PR. Forest floors are usually just leaf liter, bushes and logs etc. I'd MUCH rather have more logs and junk on the forest floor instead of the useless, non-distant, hard to see out of, perfect lawn grass that is currently in-game. It looks nice but is hardly functional or fun.

This is also my frustration with the BF2 engine. You think you're in a concealed (not covered) position where you're all hunkered down having to peer in between blades of grass to get a clear shot, but someone 300meters out can see you as if you're laying out in the middle of a barren stretch of desert. This completes the purpose of grass and camo.
I agree that we need other objects to use for concealment that actually provide concealment.

I remember some poor ******* squad getting picked off by me with a DMR, headshoted one, so the others went prone to 'conceal' themselves, just took out the slow moving targets.dunehunter wrote:Could the grass and the rice in those areas be removed or something? yeah agree with you all the grass sucks...
and yeah forests are not very grassed at all... BUT the default BF2 textures only on a whole forest floor look pretty bad too...hehe...
we have some large static grass patches which are being worked on...these would provide cover at distance.. they wouldnt be everywhere mind you but would be fairly easy to distinguish....im just working on combining them with the bf2 grass and get some nice mixes...
they should be mostly taller grasses which you should be able to crawl right into... not tested yet though so cross your fingers...

um...seriously, what I could use less of is plain old ASPHALT and DESERT GROUND
thats all PR is turning into. Sure, you can remove the grass, but take a look into your own front yard.
I want shrubs, weeds, fallen leaves, DIRT, logs, blah. I dont care if its textures or objects or bumpmapping, as long as it WORKS AND LOOKS GOOD. this mod is about realism, not about "oooh i wanta my DESERT COMBAT BABEYEEEY and lets put some URBAN fighting int here toooo!!!"
how about things like shale and rocks, dust, flowers, more trees, stumps, ferns, undergrowth, darkness, and all the other stuff in nature.

I did notice the other day playing Helmand that the grass/poppy fields also provide NO cover what so ever from someone looking from a distance. Very frustrating if your going up against scoped weapons.

in 50m it worked, and if you where on the same flat terrain it worked, but then if you went up above say on a crane and looked down, you could easily see ppl just sitting there. Also tanks where razied too so they could easily see over.M4nicMin3r wrote:Was it just me or did the grass in Steel Thunder work really well?

Here's a question for those who know. Is it possible to have a raised decal covering the area that only appears at distance?
What I mean is that at close range the grass is rendered, but at greater distances it is replaced with a decal that "hovers" three feet above the ground? This would provide concealment at distance without the need for huge statics.
Any thoughts?
