Aircraft munitions

Post by Fifty »

Earlier today I took the seat of the F16 for the first time, I noticed that it has two types of missiles. What's the difference between them?

One of the sets ( The exact name of the two types of missiles escapes me at this moment ) has a range of I think ... 250m? And the second ( which you only have two of ) have a range of roughly 1000m.

Yep one is long range AA and the other is short range.

Always wondered why you didn't carry more long range.

Um... neither work. So don't bother with them.

AIM-120 AMRAAMs (AA-12 "Adder" on the MiG 29) are "long range" they have a range of 1200m, iirc, which is beyond visual range (BVR) AIM-9 Sidewinders (AA-11 "Archer" on the MiG 29) are "short range" and have a range of about 250m.

However, niether of them work properly right now, but improvements are coming.
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.
