Will PRM port to BF3 easily?

Post by BeerHunter »

There's an apparently leaked document from DICE going around detailing some of the features that are supposed to be in BF3. When contacted both EA and DICE simply said "no comment..don't discuss future releases" leading one to believe that the document is legitimate. If it weren't one would assume they would simply deny it.

BF3 will apparently be BF2 with a few more bells and whistles and the ability for squads to form into sections/squadrons.

I would imagine it will also use the new Crysis engine (my speculation, not mentioned in the document).

No hint of a release date but some are speculating next year sometime.

If this is the case , how much work is it going to be to port the PRM code over to the BF3 engine assuming that they would keep the API calls close to the older BF2 engine as possible to speed up production.

Give you developers something to do over the summer instead of lounging around drinking beer won't it..

That is correct. It apparently would still be in the design/development stage.

The document I'm referring to is a prospectus designed primarily for investors who would receive it in December apparently.

My straight answer is no.

* New engine + new game = rethink and retry most things
* The devs would have to code everything from scratch again
* Some models might not fit with the graphical standards in the game = make new models from scratch

we could keep all of the models and sound (however with a new engine we would be best off with new high resolution dx-10 models) however all maps (except maybe heightmaps) would have to be redone, and well, lets not even talk about the coding.

so the answer is no, it won't port easily.

has anyone forgotten that it will more than likely be "Vista only"

EA knows that for the next few years XP users can still provide a large portion of the income new games would generate. Unless Microsoft paid them a ton of cash it seems very unlikely they would make a Battlefield 3 Vista only.

What I found awesome is that BF3 will come with 8 maps and no new gamemodes. Ain`t that just fucking brilliant.

I think EA/DICE leaked the PDF themselves. As a form of mega clever advertising.

It's a matter of time before a picture of some BF3 models are leaked by someone..

well if the hardcoding BS of bf2 and bf2142 are any indication, then you probly wont even be able to make a mod for bf3

They didn't port that much really. It's pretty much all new content, AFAIK.

i think its will be like Battlefield Bad Company for PC... but more Multi oriented... Battlefield in current time, whit Frostbite engine, and our era weapon as HK416 !!! HELL YEAH! Thats my opinion, and if i'm write, Dev will more have to re-tweak the game to make it more realist... is not long as to build every model from scratch...

Some Screenshot of BFBC... you can suppose BF3 will looked like
