i would say a bad ground material asigned to the area on the banks...ie a death type material or something like that..
did the mapper use a terrain generating program? it might have assigned materials...the mapper should know how to change them to something else in the editor...
if you can consistently pin it down to a ground texture type...ie only on the mud it happens then thats likely the problem
