After playing COD4, I'm very impressed with what gaming engines can do nowadays and with the games coming out on the Unreal 3 engine (ie: Frontlines Fuel of War -- the guys behind BF1942 mod Desert Combat are making that game) it seems that there will be a lot of opportunity for pushing PR to the next level.
I know a lot of people have been bringing up COD4 arbitrarily for features that the BF2 engine obviously doesn't support. The only reason I even brought it up is because the game is so freaking fluid. Gameplay is fun too, but it's extremely arcade - though with some modding it would be spectacular. I'm in no way saying that PR should switch to COD4 engine as that would be ridiculous.
I played COD4 on multiplayer for over a week (without playing PR) and logged on to PR for the first time last night and the controls seemed SOOOO uncomfortable it was insane. As I was playing COD4, the whole time I was thinking how incredible it would be if the BF2 engine supported some of the things that engine did.
Also, this isn't about the graphical quality because I could really care less about that. It's more about engine features and making things more usable and logical for a game like PR.
I think this mod is the perfect blend of BF2 and OFP - kind of like the middle ground between simplicity and complexity. I like that more emphasis is put on the gameplay aspects of the game instead of stupid control options like in OFP where you can turn your head individually, and have this clunky animation in front of you when you run, etc. Moving, shooting ,etc is simple - it's the gameplay elements that make the game challenging and rewarding at the same time. Usually in the realism simulators everyone looks like a bunch of chickens with their heads cut off because it's impossible to mimic real human movement with a mouse and keyboard -- makes everyone look retarted.
So I'm not pushing for anything in particular, but just curious what the devs have been talking about internally regarding the future of PR and where it could go. Perhaps get some sort of funding somehow?
EDIT: I hope this thread doesn't get locked, since it would be great to talk about where PR could possibly go and see what everyone thinks about that.
