All good answers I guess but his one gets closest to answering it.
"Why the 1337 attitude to snipers?"

Because (it appears to me) 95% of players whose preference it is to be snipers are simply not team players.
Which, to my mind, is taken care of in a squad situation by kicking from the squad if they don't behave properly.I don't actually believe this to be true but it would explain the reaction that's got when a question is asked about them.As in;
.I noticed that post,and it(and the response he got) is one of the reasons I asked.

It still seems to me that the cries of "leet" come from the "leet".Certainly the rubbishing of anyone asking about sniper pick up kits takes place.

I still think all the "easter eggs" aka "pick up kits" should be binned ( these really are "Elite" as only a handful of highly protective players know where they are and take the piss when someone asks about them) and replaced with kit issued by SL's.Most of the time I'm a team player but there are occasions when all I feel like doing is having a bit of a snipe.

Besides T&T and TG server with squadless kick script, you actually do them a favor by kicking them out of the squad after they already claimed their precious rifle.

Sniper = Loner ;-)

That's why most of all hate them. Nearly all snipers are joining a squad only for getting this kit and have no attention to orders or other squad members. Short: No Teamplay! And Project Reality without Teamplay is just sad... well there are exceptions..

^ well, whenever im a sniper in my squade i usually am near where they are and give them cover and take out specific targets which are hard to kill. besides there are times when for example a enemy squad is trying to flank my squad which happens to be defending a flag, and i just wipe them out and tell my squade i just killed them all. my point is, i never let any threat get closer than 150 meters to my squad mates.
so for me
Sniper = being a normal squad member and following orders

Why? Because with the exception of WnxKenwayy, WnxKinote and 2 others, no one really has the total package of intel, communication, lethality, disguise, and raw skill. Thus wasting the sniper rifle when they could be used humping it out on the ground.

That's MARKSMAN's role for fook sake. No wonder people use the two kits the other way around :?

The stupid thing is when some guys request them and then go to VCP in Basrah! They use it like it's a CQB Kit :(

I do that all the time. JuniperM40 do that and defend VCP and then eventually establish a FOB E/SE of the VCP. Very effective with Land Rovers + Sniper.

That is confirmed. Do it myself. Snipers are very effective in taking out RPG gunners, as well as covering in-city fighting from a distance (even if that involves taking out those spotting civvies :wink: ).

More guns and bullets make bad guys go away faster,
which in turn makes everyone in the area safer.

Pound for pound, ANY class that moves and operates along side your squad is FAR more valuable than any class that doesn't. I'd rather have a medic at my side than a sniper 400 yards away.

The tactical advantage that a sniper would offer in the real world is lost in the fast and furious pace of this game and they usually amount to nothing more than an annoyance. Moreover, the current accuracy of the rifleman is such that he can perform just as well as a sniper can at range, if not better, simply because his weapon and kit loadout is far more versatile.

I second wolfe's post.

Also, I have yet to see an effective sniper on any map. I realize that they are out there, it's just that there are very few of them.

what if the only people that could request kits were the squad leader? ei. the SL hands out kits to all the guys before moving out.

If he have a certain number of guys in the squad that squad could be eligible to apply for the sniper kit available on the particular map.

That way only squads that want or need a sniper will have one and random people that only want it to go off lonewolfing cant access it leaving it available to a squad that have the knowledge how to use it.

from what i've seen the people who do care about these kits care ONLY for this kit, they won't follow you, they won't heal you, these aren't the people who are contributing to the team, i'm not saying anyone who uses it is a noob, i'm saying anyone who will TK over it/ask for it till the point of frustration and eventually a TK.

I dont know about you guys but i travel with my squad as sniper. Infact i use it more for 100> shots then long range on basrah now as insurgent.(Scope sucks for anything over 150 because an svd can handle it better)

Worst part of my computer being stolen...
I can't log in and smack down all of you that say a sniper isn't effective in a squad or PR enviroment.

I never allow snipers in my VCP defend squads, simply due the fact, that some crazy civi is going to bring up a spawn car, no one will notice and the next thing you know is tons of Insurgents spraying around with AK47s inside the VCP, where a sniper is useless. Do I really want to give them a weapon to take me out from 400 m, when I have to attack the VCP afterwoulds?

Oh and because using M249s, Land Rover MGs or IFVs to suppress them and seeing them get taken out under a barrage of fire looks way cooler than some guy with a 1337 boomstick going around 'boom headshot'. The Insurgents don't have body armor anyway, so any 7.62mm shot will be instant death for them.
