Will 128 players ever be possible

You do not think it would be possible to get DICE/EA to join in on the idea like I described above? Would it require a lot of work on their part to either release the parts of the source code restricting the player count or an unsupported patch allowing for more players? I assume that if somebody made it easy to use it is something mods like PR would be very interested in.

I think we need to be carefull what we wish for. People are just assuming that an increase in player #'s is a flip of the switch and were in buisness and enjoying life.
More players means we need enough vehicles to support them, more soldiers to render, more bullet holes to render, more smoke gernades to render, more explosions to render, more voip bandwidth, more more more.
All of this added up could cripple PR for most people. So unless you have a nice rig you will be sitting on the sidelines or a smaller server while some people get to enjoy the larger servers. However since allot of people don't have the rigs and can't join the big servers these servers running bigger teams may not be full most of the time.
I could be comletly wrong about this but most games start to stall out when player numbers are increased.

Your probably right, but even for some magical wish this was a possibility and worked i think that this would be awsomeLong Bow wrote:I think we need to be carefull what we wish for. were getting these 17km square maps but with only 64 players on there the maps are going to be pretty sparse, 128 players is probably too small for these size maps. I used to love playing 64 players on the vanilla 16 player maps that was cool.
In my opinion a few of the vanilla maps were too big for 64 players, but i always like the fighting to be intense not wonder around for few minutes with out seeing anyone.

It's a different style of gameplay though - it's no longer just run-and-gun, it's think-jog-pause-listen-observe-crawl-observe-smoke-run-shoot-cover-shoot

I don't know much about .exe editing and all that techy stuff but, anyway, here's what I think could be tried:
Isn't there a way to, instead of editing the .exe, create a .bat file or something among those type of files that would just add that line momentarily when you started PR or create a new .exe with the 128 player line (why do BF2 mods have to use BF2.exe by the way? I remember some other games whose mods had their own .exe) and it would replace the BF2.exe momentarily, automatically making a backup of it.
Also I've read from a BF2 player that in the BF2 Demo you CAN play online with 128 players and it DOES NOT crash. So perhaps by comparing both the demo and retail .exes we could get somewhere?

Alas, KoC, you are wrong. It is currently impossible to beat Chuck Norris in a fight, or a game of any sort.'[R-DEV wrote:KingofCamelot']Possible? Well, technically anything is possible.
Well, 128-man servers would end my time at PR. My computer just would not be able to handle it, and unless I win the lottery I won't be getting a new one any time soon.
Myself wrote:It'd be more popular than PR, cuz itd appeal to the noob-spraying, team-killing, bunny-hopping, jet-crashing, team-swapping retards that belong in vanilla BF2.
