How to Aim with Grenadier (For version 0.7 Only!)

Post by (HUN)Rud3bwoy »

I dont know if everyone else know this, so I'll write it down.

If you know how to use the crosshairs on the grenade launcher, you can place dead-on shots up until 160m, not dead-on but close shots up until 320m.

Your crosshair looks like this:

Image

When you are aiming make sure that the target is between the two vertical stripes. Also to be as precise as possible after stopped moving and started aiming wait for about 5 seconds or else the grenade will go slightly left or right from your target.

The horizontal stripes helps you to aim. Each level of horizontal stripes represent a certain distance. This means if you know the distance between you and your target (or if you can estimate accurately) then the target's feet or lower body has to be between the 2 vertical stripes and at the horizontal stripes of the right distance. You shouldnt aim for head or upper body, the best is if you aim for the ground right where your target stands.

The distances of the horizontal stripes are as following:

Image

Each level of horizontal stripes are 10m away from each other.

This means if your target is lets say 50m away then the feet of your enemy, or the ground has to be here:

Image

If your target is further away than 80m then all you have to do is integrate as much imaginary horizontal stripes as you have to. If your target is 90m away you add one more level of hor.stripes to the bottom of the 80m one:

Image

This way you can place dead on shots up to 160m.

At 240m the grenade would land in a 20-30m radius of your target at 320m it can be up to 40m, but in this case aiming a little higher may sometimes help a bit.

Hope you find this useful

Good work they are some useful findings, but I say just practice with it and get a feel with the weapons. Each one I swear works slightly different as well, the M203 feels like it fires along a different trajectory to the others but maybe thats just me...

Nice job thanks. I have always had success with the grenade launcher but never really looked at the distances etc.

Nice guide. I love the grenadier and can put grenades on target even if I cant see it. Love to support my squad like a 1 man mortar team. The grenadier is quite hard to get used to but after you get the hang of it you can easily hit a enemy over 300m.

As far as I tried, the guide applies to all of the grenade launchers in PR.
Have fun! :)

Good job! The grenadier is one of the least used, and least correctly used, classes. To use the grenadier class it is important that you understand how to get a first shot kill on your target, which means understanding both how to estimate distance well, when you can effectively get your target, and aiming well enough to bring those two together. The OP contains some good facts, but the most helpful thing is to just go practice with the GL.

I don't think it's that easy in real life, right?

300m is a bit much lol

Maybe something to follow in the Suggestions forum.

I've shot the german AG36. Its max.range is 400m IIRC.
And in fact, hitting targets up to 200m was quite easy - dont think 100 more meters would do a huge difference.
Thanks for the guide! Never thought any of the gunsights in game were of any use.

I tested this myself in PR 0.7 and it was a perfect 3 increments to 50 meters conversion. Unless they changed it in this version, I'm not sure that OP is correct.

Testing this is simple. Load a large, flat map (kashan or quinling), get a grenadier kit, and fire straight down the runway at a know increment (say 3) with a smoke shell. Then pop smoke at your own feet and mark where you were. Run to the first smoke shell and measure the distance, repeating with HE rounds if desired.

Doing this yielded 50m=3 increments for me.

You guys won't have to worry about this in v0.8. The new aiming overlay has increments of 50m (starting with the first one @ 50m). It is slightly different on widescreen monitors though.

i admit that i never shot a grenade launcher, but they the aiming system is far superior to what we have ingame as we only got the front sight and the real rifles use 2 sights if i am correct (correct me if i'm wrong) and the sights also got windage adjustment, have heard a lot of stories of grenade launchers with a MOA of 20 at 200 metres. (only stories though and nothing concrete but the persons i have spoken to about it have learnt it pretty fast and the learning curve is rather easy)

I can guarantee you: Have 3 tests shots with one of em things and you'll hit targets 200m away with loads of wind without any trouble.
Unless, of course, you're a total git. You might not be able to hit through a doorframe or a window on that distance, but after the next shot there wont be no more doors or windows anyway.

I havent found that your system is correct.
Maybe I'm wrong but I have spent time working out the distances and such.

Maybe it's changed now in v0.8?

To test this, make yourself a SL. Put a target marker down range 100m, or whatever and practice hitting it, paying sharp attention to what line youre using for each distance. This will gaurantee your results.

First off, the Grenades will not explode before 35-40m.
Second off. The very top line of the sight is for about 100m. I personally aim for the feet. Every 35-50m past 100 i raise it up to between the first and second lines.
So for 100m or less use the very top line, for every 50m past that raise it up half notch. I pretty much make kill shots 8-10 shots, many times killing multi's. I have kiled out to 300m, multiple times, and many times with a first shot. I would say that for some reason, unknown to me, your system is off. I've experimented, tested on and off the active battlefield and found that my results are true and correct. As for the staying still for 5 secs and all that, I agree 100%. Kneeling is also a very important aspect.

Certain tactics I use with smoke and nades.

First off. Your Grenadier needs to be in the mid, to very rear of your squad, if not above your squad. He's not a point man.
Obviosusly theres the explosive aspect of the kit, but you also have your smoke to do a few things with, such as, screen your teams movements, smoke out and retreat when needed and if you're out of nades than you can use the smoke to cover an enemies visual on your location, just hit him with the smoke. Really helpful for hard to hit snipers or marksmen.

use smoke to blind the enemy when assaulting. do NOT put it in ur squads line of movement but directly on top of the enemy

I've made this guide for version 0.7, so it is obsolete now. Maybe even a mod could delete it since its no use anymore.
I hope I could help with this guide back in 0.7.
Cheers!
