that sucks[R-DEV]Rico wrote:Increased view distance means lower performance. We have to strike a balance somewhere otherwise only those with the latest PC's could play. You could argue that those lower end pc's could reduce their view distance in the settings, but then this gives a large disadvantage to them.

The problem isn't with view distance, it's the rendering of objects at longer view distances that is still the problem, not much point being hidden inside a small house or a field, or behind a structure if some sniper 1000m away can see you because of how much the BF2 engine blows. The dev's already increased view distance for 0.6.

you can icnrease the draw distance of every thing on a map, that is how they get good minimaps. i would have a 2km view distance on kashan instead of 8xaa, high textures, ect.
here is how you can increase the view distance.
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\levels\level you want to edit\server.zip
in server.zip there will be 2 files called
init.con
sky.con
for init.con change
GameLogic.MaximumLevelViewDistance 1000
to what ever you want the draw distance to be
for sky.con change
Renderer.fogStartEndAndBase a/b/c/d
ok so a is where the fog starts, b is where you cannot see anything cus of the fog. not sure what c and d do so just leave em.

i tried that in vanilla BF2 and PB didnt like it.
from my experiences, u can edit any .con file that isnt in a zip file.
also, if u try changing the view distance in the video.con file from 1 (100%) to something like 1.5 (150%) it automatically changes it baack to 1 (100%)

you should have downloaded the patch thing for .6 that me and cas made, 4km view distance for kashan, night kashan, the jdam that i made, the planes that are in .7 were in the patch befor .7, testing jonnys guns, ect. we are working on things for .7, we should have a patch out for .7 soon.
but kashan looks great with 4km view distance but 2km view distance is about as much as you would ever need.
