yha you can increase the view distance to what ever just need to increase the values in the init and sky.con, i am not sure about this working online, not sure if pb would catch it.

Increased view distance means lower performance. We have to strike a balance somewhere otherwise only those with the latest PC's could play. You could argue that those lower end pc's could reduce their view distance in the settings, but then this gives a large disadvantage to them.

Now imagine the view distance would be 2000...damn *droll*

and those who have problems just lower the visibility to 50%...

hmm...

that sucks :( it would be so much better with a further draw distance, gameplay wise. Especially for planes and helis. You'd actually have to account for shell drop in tank combat...

CURSE YOU LOW END COMPUTERS! GET A NEW PC! jk

Hmmmmm, I have high RAM and i think it would compansate for the long distance. Or do Video cards department?.(that as best as i could tranlate my thoughts to words deal with it).

Hehe, i can imagine some poor infantryman running accross the field, then a tank shell arrives from beyond his view distance cuz some tanker with the latest Dell XPS or somthing can see 200m further than he can :-D

The problem isn't with view distance, it's the rendering of objects at longer view distances that is still the problem, not much point being hidden inside a small house or a field, or behind a structure if some sniper 1000m away can see you because of how much the BF2 engine blows. The dev's already increased view distance for 0.6.

you can change the draw distance for biuldings, trees, ect. that is how you get good minimaps/maps. i think a 2km view distance for kashan would work fine, i would go for a bigger view distance over better shadows/aa any day.

ok so here is how you can edit the view distance.

you can icnrease the draw distance of every thing on a map, that is how they get good minimaps. i would have a 2km view distance on kashan instead of 8xaa, high textures, ect.

here is how you can increase the view distance.

C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\levels\level you want to edit\server.zip

in server.zip there will be 2 files called

init.con
sky.con

for init.con change

GameLogic.MaximumLevelViewDistance 1000

to what ever you want the draw distance to be

for sky.con change

Renderer.fogStartEndAndBase a/b/c/d

ok so a is where the fog starts, b is where you cannot see anything cus of the fog. not sure what c and d do so just leave em.

i tried that in vanilla BF2 and PB didnt like it.

from my experiences, u can edit any .con file that isnt in a zip file.

also, if u try changing the view distance in the video.con file from 1 (100%) to something like 1.5 (150%) it automatically changes it baack to 1 (100%)

probably, if it didn't this trick would have been famous in BF2 vanilla where people get hacks to increase draw distance (or remove the fog)

ok i am not 100% sure if this would work have not tried this.

try adding

renderer.minCullDistance 2000

add it to the very last part of the init.con file near the other renderer things. this should make everything draw at 2000, so just set this a little higher then you draw distance.

Lol, so people could use those snipers that were accurate to 100m meters and whose bullet mysteriously disappeared after like 300m XD

you should have downloaded the patch thing for .6 that me and cas made, 4km view distance for kashan, night kashan, the jdam that i made, the planes that are in .7 were in the patch befor .7, testing jonnys guns, ect. we are working on things for .7, we should have a patch out for .7 soon.

but kashan looks great with 4km view distance but 2km view distance is about as much as you would ever need.
