The Wookie sniper mod has a view distance of 1500. But stuff starts to look weird/bushes dissapear/you see lots of white stuff below trees at past 1000 meters:/

I tried Zangs view 4km view distance on a local server and it looks awesome. Can see the bunkers from US main. Wish I could test it out on a full server for performance test though.

No because its part of your local server files and will be flag by PB. You can try if you like 
The one thing BF2 did do right is catching hackers with this setup, this would be considered a hack. You can set the view distance on your own map (or others) and play it locally only. But you will have to rename the level.
