Nice idea but unable to be done due to game engine limitations.Morlock wrote:How about giving the big choppers [Blackhawk] airlift capabilities to pick up abandoned Hummers and drop them off where needed.
Quick question regarding HMMWVs etc

A team made up of well organized squads who set frequently rallies rarely needs more transport. Most of the time when faced by a transport problem ingame, it is either because I've joined midgame and there has been an insufficient amount of players to get the vehicles killed, while enough are driving away with them that there are none left, OR the super nubbies have driven off with all the vehicles because they're jerks. I think a small number more of light transports would be useful for almost all maps, but there are reasonably sufficient numbers of transport for a decent team you might find on any public server.

I think there should be much more light vehicles for squadmovement without needing a crewmankit.
The whole squadmovement should be in such vehicles and for that there should be much more avaiable around.
2 vehicles each bunker or firebase and maybe spawning transport vehicles after capped a flag. In the mainbase there should be much more cars with less spawntime for squadmoving.
Maybe 1 requestable armed car for squadleader at bunker or firebase (4+ ppl in squad and cooldowntime)
To force gamers to use it, there must be plenty of it around.
A squad in 1-2 armed cars have always moveable cover and a support gun to cover team adv or retreat.
I would prefer that the devs could implement more types of armed or amored cars with diffrent loadouts.

Yeah that's generally the way choppers and APC's squads which aren't operating solely as guncars generally get their cargo/passengers where they're needed, save using old fashioned text.7eveN wrote:Well to aoid this lack of trasport i create a trasport squad and only transport for the whole round. I comunicate like this me --> Commander -->SLs --> Me.
Alhough the routes are fixed, and it is boring, i have fun and feel proud to help the team move forward.
However, while it is true that these elements could bring up the masses, if doable, the squad leader spawned humvee could go a long way, given good implementation. (with the limits I described earlier it'd fit in with the realism role in that the light transports are kinda drawn from a motorpool at base/bunker/firebase ect.)
The benefit also of having it requested instead of just "humvees randomly spawn at firebases every 10 minutes" is that you dont end up with a stockpile at the base that either gets destroyed since no one needs them yet, or is never there when needed.
Ofcourse, it's just an idea I'm throwing out there, and I do realize not all maps will benefit from such a system, but it would be interesting to see where it goes if it's doable in the BF2 engine.
(I'm assuming it shouldn't be impossible since we're "requesting" kits and whole bunkers and AA guns, but hey, I'm no modder, so what do I know lol)

Uuuhh, you mean like the resupply trucks they had in .6?Freelance_Commando wrote:Maybe we should have some 'different' trucks with actual supplies that can only be driven by engineers (and maybe officers).
These could rearm vehicals and do all the normal stuff as well, now that would be cool. That woud give the engineer class some added bonuses!!!

Yes, you have NO CHOICE except for all those APC's that are sitting there untouchedAntonious_Bloc wrote:The problem is that light transport doesn't spawn at the main bases anymore. So when the team starts off, you have no choice but to take the loud, stupid truck to carry your squad.
Most maps have at least 2 APC's, which is capable of transporting HALF THE TEAM. Why theyre not used is beyond me.... IRL that is the prefered method of transport (inside an armored vehicle). Supply Trucks should be used to transport supplies and troops to a position behind the frontline, not on top of the frontline
Having a half decent commander, you can quickly get 2 bunkers, 2 firebases and 1 command post up, that is 15 transport vehicles in about 15 minutes....

But there should be more armed cars at start of the round in the base.[R-DEV]fuzzhead wrote:Yes, you have NO CHOICE except for all those APC's that are sitting there untouched

Did you ever saw a truck moving alone in rl?
I think there should be a armed car or two (m2 + tow hummer a.p.) which give him a escort to the frontline. In my opinion the trucks should have only 2-4 seats for infantry because they loaded with all stuff for build assets.
Squads shouldnt move with trucks, only commander and engineer should be able to drive them.
The squadmovement should forced to be in cars or apcs and not in trucks.

When suggesting things, keep in mind your suggesting things for 6 (more like 10 with community) factions....
That should be made a sticky...
The idea behind APCs and supply trucks at the beginning of a round was to stop players from tard rushing the flags and to make the pace of the gameplay a bit more deliberate and slower. When you put jeeps at the start, squads are more likely to simply grab the jeep and drive straight towards the enemy to cut them off... This kind of high-speed kill mentality is a bit **** imo for a realism mod....
Anyways your suggestion is noted....

I think instead of the LAVs that are currently in place for the USMC to use they should be replaced by this...

The AAV gives more options than the LAV and can carry a hell of a lot more infantry. The P-7A1 has the capacity to carry 25 combat-equipped Marines. AAVP-7A1s are operated by three crewmen; the crew chief, driver, and rear crewman.
Dunno if this is possible, but would make a welcome change from the vanilla LAV imo.

Sure model it, UV Map it, skin it and get back to the DEVs once you are finished.Blakeman wrote:I think instead of the LAVs that are currently in place for the USMC to use they should be replaced by this...

Why not bring back the support humvee and use that just make it so it does not give any ammo? there needs to be an Ammo Vehical that can deliver tanks and stuff with ammo especially on Kshan where no 1 builds fire basesBloodBane611 wrote:it is a bit odd, but you're not going to carry those kind of supplies in your humvee. So the deuce and a halfs are standins for whatever supply vehicles the factions use irl. I totally pulled that out of my butt if you can't tell.
I think it's reasonable, especially since there are no models to replace it right now. Maybe when some more realistic humvees get made it'll get changed.

Teams should just build firebases...rather than implement something new, people could just use what's already designed for the job.
Also, most of the time on Kashan, tanks and APCs run around until they get killed, and that is rarely long enough that they need to reload. There is only a small number of tanks that are actually going out to engage, pulling back when damaged to repair, and then lasting long enough to actually need a resupply.

APCs never carry half the team, simply because there is never a designated APC transport squad. A Squad will each drive one for themselves, and you can load up the empty spots in them and then have most of your squad traveling in two different directions. Or grab a support truck. Or walk.
Either way, why does the team start with so many trucks? How effective are they at carrying troops to the front-line if the front-line hasn't even been established yet?
What about even one extra light transport at bases? That's not too ridiculous, is it? You could even make it so that it never respawns. Sure, firebases spawn them, but that takes 15 minutes, by which time the beginning of the round is over and you already had to take the supply truck option. It's just that the way it is now in pub games, there are always players left with just trucks at the base.
