[Question] BF2 Statics Tips?

Post by Masaq »

Hey guys,

I've browsed over these fora and some others like bfeditor.org for tips and advice on making statics for BF2. I've a little 3DSM experience, and I plan to start off really basically just experimenting with basic box-shape stuff and then getting used to UVWs and texturing.

If anyone has advice, tips or links to stuff they found particularly helpful while starting out, I'd be much oblidged for the help.

Due to RL constraints I doubt I'll ever do anything more in-depth than a few buildings, and thus avoid nasty complicated things like wheels the like :p

There was somewhere on the web (probably on bf2editor.org) nice tutorial about modeling, unwraping and texturing. There was a guy on this video who was creating a Glock model.

Sorry, I couldn't find the link.

NP lol. Have found bfeditor.org, had some interesting stuff but much of it is a little poorly written and such. Learning it slowly by playing around with it lol.

Had any more luck in finding any good tuts for this Masaq ???
I'd also like to get into making some statics but there's not exactly heaps of good info out there (well if there is it's hard to find lol)
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes.
A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production.

making a static isn't really that easy, you have to have pretty good knowalge of all modeling, unwrapping, skinining and importing aswell as how a mapper is going to use a static (epically if you are going to split a static up into different sections, like a bridge) before you can really start to make a static really, but saying that you have to learn basically all of that stuff by just doing it anyways hehe.

there is a video tut around on the net some where, not that I've watched it I sorta gathered my info up over time and brought in what I already knew to be able to make statics soo ehh, cant really link you to any as I dont know where they would be...

Try searching on bfeditor.org for something along the lines of: static +video +tutorial

should get something, maybe take out the video bit.

first if you are making a tunnel you are doing it in really the totally wrong way :p

first your model is far too high poly, most of what you want to do can be done with a texture and a bump map.

before even considering to make a tunnel / underground bunker, you have to think how BF2 works. in bf2 you cant dig a tunnel into the terrain like you can on crysis or some other games. the for the only way to make a tunnel is to first lower the terrain, then you put your tunnel aobve your lowered terrain, then you put a "cover" over the top of your tunnel and the cover of which looks something like terrain. The tunnel in OGT has a big static cover over the top of it, its not real terrain.

next you dont want any gaps showing though your tunnel as that will only show into the empty space around your tunnel, best thing would be is to model the dirt around your tunnel.

then you dont want any outside faces to your tunnel as no ones going to see them, just inside faces.

Also best to look at taxi's militia tunnels, you could probaly use them he used them on Fools road, under the hill estate.
